I like the idea of a roll bar over the driver and passenger compartments and then adequate armor for the rockers, quarters, fenders, and of course bumpers front and rear. In a wagon, a full EXO or internal is extreme IMHO. A safety roll bar for the "just in case" plus armor to save sheetmetal is a nice compromise.

HTH,

I think most 60's are wheeled w/out a roll-bar. Having one would be safer obviously.

A couple of guys have rolled their rigs, Tapage + 2badjfs specifically, and judging by how much the roof caved in I would say you're safe. I would definitely want a roll cage if I was doing extremely hard or off camber trails regularly though.

Get a full length roof rack that attaches in at least four places on each side and you would be plenty protected for anything you'll come across. It'll spread the load of a rollover across the entire roof/pillar structure, limit the sheetmetal damage, and has a plethora of other great uses. A cage, if done incorrectly can be more dangerous than not having one. Even if the cage is correct, the B-pillar and probably the C-pillar vertical bars will come into contact with the occupants heads creating a very dangerous scenario without ever rolling-over. Roll cages should be used with four-(or more) point harnesses only, and that includes on the highway as well.
