HI, I'm kinda new to land crusiers, however have been turing wrench's on my owns stuff for several years.
my future ex got the good running fj 62 but thats ok i got the fj40,
however it does not heat up here behing the zion curtain utah. but I have a chance to purchase a fj60 that has had the head removed in order to install a head gasket. when the dude put it back toether, he did not do a valve adjustment. There is very little compression in the motor. It can be had cheap. Is compressionn a function of valve adjustment? I think so but the only manua I have is for the 62 and is a factory one how much of the motor info is the same? I know one is fuel injected and the other is carbs.

I just replaced the trans in the 62 so your not talking to a dude with a k-mart socket set.

Please help me out!
Thanks

If the valves are adjusted too tight (like if the head was milled and the valves not readjusted after) then yes, valves can affect compression. In this case the valves could be being held off the valve seats which means little to no compression.

If the price is right then even if it requires more work it might still be a good deal.

On the manual, the valve adjust info should be the same IIRC. I can't speak for the rest of the manual. I think they're cheap enough to get the right one either way.

Yes, the valves being out of adjustment could affect the compression. Will the engine run? If it will run, you should be able to get it up to operating temp and then check the valves. It can be done in less than 30 minutes. It might be worth the effort to do before actually buying the truck. Any chance the head had a valve job done while it was off?

My favorite valve adjustement procedure can be found here:

no valve job, aparently it was gound down past the"crack" between the combustion chambers, it runs but has "no power"
If it needs a new head what kind of money am I looking at? and where would a good place to look here in Utah be?
Thanks
