I want York OBA.

I have an 86FJ60 with the 2F and stock oil cooler and heater hoses.

I want to keep my AC. (but can relocate the dryer as I need to reinstall the entire AC system anyway)

I have a 2" body lift (more vertical room under the hood).

I have deleted the smog pump.

I don't want to put anything down in the smog pump location that would be damaged by getting dunked under water.

How about the stock AC compressor down in the former smog pump location in order to leave the passenger side otherwise free?

If no better plan emerges I am planning on building a bracket (I can cut and weld) to hold the York and alternator on the (US) passenger side in place of the current alternator bracket. (In an ideal world it will work without a body lift also)

I don't want to reinvent the wheel if there is some existing solution out there... I have searched and have seen many idea and solutions but none that meet my above criteria.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

York is to big to fit in there properly. Look at doing a Sanden swap (look in the Hardcore/Expedition forums). If you are a glutten for punishment and your eyes can stand the pain this months version of 4x4 off road (a heep rag) has a DIY sanden project in it. (Ok I found the one I was thinking of HERE)

Only problem I see with the way you are looking at doing it is the smog pump is a tensioner and I dont believe the AC can be used as a tensioner.

It won't fit in the smog pump location but I think it will fit in the alternator location.

A possibility... but I already have the York...

Why not? If you built the bracket such that the tensioned position left the compressor in proper "up" orientation it would be fine. Are the lines off of the pump hard lines?

Ah very true. Since I figured you were planning the desmog I assumed that you were looking to drop it in the SP spot.

That does make a difference.

True, again I thought you were looking to put in the smog location. The York will definitely be a great OBA system for you and they put out great CFM from what I have read, they are just big for fitting in some places. (THATS WHAT SHE SAID)

I believe that it is a challenge to fit a York in a 60 with AC but I am part way thru a bracket mock up that looks promising. I will be building a prototype in the next few days - unless someone comes along with a better option (Please!)

Yeah I have seen those. No one has built a bracket for the 60 that fits my criteria of keeping the AC.

The bracket I am working on is for the alt location. I would love to give some thought to moving the AC compressor to the smog pump location to free up the AC compressor space...

Ok so if you did that how would you run the lines from the far side of the engine bay to the proper connections to the passenger side? Since the AC is already low on the drivers side then I do not see there being an issue on the other side. The problem would then be what happens when/if the Alt gets wet? Is there such thing as a water proof alt?

Maybe the York would fit under the alternator on the pass side since it can sit at an angle. On the driver's side (smog pump location) the PS box is in the way.

Running the hoses to the proper locations for the AC compressor would just be a matter of getting longer hoses - they could run in front of the radiator or back up over the top of the wheel well and over the booster and along the firewall.

i have a 82 parts rig with a york as a ac compressor, looks like a dealer installed deal, it sits where the alternator is on my 85 and the alt. under it. i plan to eventually use this on my rig, i cant post pics at work but will try to later.. it connects to the front of the engine by a flat gussetted plate...

I would love to see the brackets for the York AND the alt.... thanks

here is what is on my parts rig... i was wrong it has a piece running under the water pump but is not bolted to anything, it picks up two bolts in the head and 2 down by the motor mount...then a simple bracket off the york to the alt. ...hope this helps

It is good to see this. I would love to see how the lower part of the bracket is attached. I have a similar bracket (maybe the same one) and I didn't think it would fit with the coolant hoses and oil cooler in place...

headin out of town but will get ya a pic after the weekend, !
