hey guys i just got a set of fj55 rear springs from my friend. try to put them on the regular way and the military wrap seems to be to big for the front spring perch on the rear of my 40, so i flipped the spring and mounted the military wrap on the shackle side. is the 40 spring perch smaller than the 55? it seems if i leave the springs like they are now i will have less articulation in the rear.

You want the military wrap at the fixed end of the spring. That way if the main leaf breaks you can still controll your truck.

yes but it would not fit on the fixed side, the wram its just to large. i need abotu .50 inch more room to fit the bolt throug the bushings

Build new perches to fit the spring width.

the width is fine the height is the problem. the wrap hits the top of the perch before the bushing hole can be aligned with the hole in the perch.:o

has any of you guys seen this kind of a spring on a 55?. is it a hd spring?

haven't seen those HD 55springs...I think mine have 7 or 8 leafs.

You might have better luck with a different spring bushing.
Something with a shorter sholder may allow you to mount the Military Rap forward.

SOR is one of the vendors that come to mind when thinking of custom bushings:Specter Off-Road Poly Bushings

Hi All:

Trim-off the part of the military wrap that curves over the top of the spring eye. Take-off just enough to allow it to fit into the fixed-end spring hanger.

I have used both the early and the later model '55 spring in '40s. The wrap is close, but when the spring is positioned the way it will be with weight on the rig, they fit...

I have two sets on the floot tonight that I removed today. I will look to be sure, but I am 99.9999999% sure that I have never needed to mod anything to make them fit the hanger. it is tight, but they fit.

i'm with mark W here, i've thrown a few different sets into my 1976 and never had much of an issue.

BTW, these are not "heavy duty" springs.

The last year of production, the '55 used this 5+overload design. Earlier rigs used an 8 leaf design. But it is not any heavier duty. just different.

all i know that those springs came off a 79 fj55.

yep, standard '79 pig rears.
