Mounted my stock 55 springs and just like my old MAF 4" lift 55 springs, the military wrap is too big for the stock 40 hanger. Is there a trick besides replacing the spring hanger to get this to fit? I cant think of one but would love to hear from others with 55 springs in their 40 hangers. Do you just keep the mil-wrap side on the shackle? Or??????

Thanks

I think the military wrap is supposed to so on the frame side, something about the shackle binding on it or the safety aspect of the double wrap being negated when its attached to the non-fixed end.

3lb hammer.

technically, the military wrap is supposed to go on the fixed end, but i've run it on the shackle on numerous 40s for years with no issues. no binding issues, probably because the second leaf is thinner when it does the military wrap.

My problem is that the mil wrap hits the bottom of the frame before it is high enough to slide the pin in. I think the reason for this is the larger spring eye- 1 and 1/8 ID sleeve, then 1st leaf, then mil wrap 2nd. This creates a bigger mass to shove in the stock 40 hanger. I got my bushings from spector, stayed with 15mm ID by drilling out and narrowed the shoulders on the bench grinder to match the shackle hanger and fit in the spring hanger- width wise.

Manny- So do you have the mil wrap in the stock 40 hanger with clearance?

Thanks,

Eric

QUOTE=mr_manny;1983086]You are correct (MW on frame side)...

I'm running 55 springs in my 40, the trick is to use bushings that have a thiner flange/wall.
Try Spector, they have a few available.

Don't know If it makes a difference, but I am running 5/8" pins on both fixed ends.

I did have to clearance my Shackle-Reversal a bit to accommodate the MW.
Did not encounter any issues on stock 40 hanger w/correct bushings.

hth,
manny

I'm running '55 springs front and rear under my tan '40 maybe a little close, but they fit with no interference problems.

Mark...

I used to run the same thing.

Woody as well.

Military wrap goes on the frame side. Don't make me post pics..

If theres a little clearance between the eye and the wrap, you could have a spring shop tweek the wrap a little to close it up.

Well there ya go. Or ou might be able to do it with a hyd press. Take (read CUT) the bolt out and seperate the leaves for that.:bounce:

Mine fit no problem.Reamed out bushings for pins and shaved the flange a lil bit.Runnin fj55 fronts and rears no fitment issues with wrap.

I know, I know, I know the mil wrap is supposed to go on the spring hanger side. No problem. I dont know if some springs have larger mil wrap or some spring hangers are not as deep. It wouldnt make sence to me but I dont know. Heres some pics on the truck. I dont have any not on the truck. There is about a 2 to 3 16th space between the main and mil wrap. Maybe this is more than normal. I have a big hammer and I'm not afraid to use it.

Those are not OEM FJ55 springs. '55s had the same "bent around the spring" spring clamps as '40s. Not the "bolt through the arms" style that your picture shows.

Mark...

Those bolts look to be secondary Mark. Not quite centered and you can see where the clamp was straightened..

Ya, I did that. Other than that do they look correct. There were some letters or numbers that I could not make out but could clearly see the mitsubishi symbol in white on both springs.
