I recently was given a plastic gear for the aft glass that works. I took it and had it printed. I am going to have 5-10 more printed that I will give away for free. They are made from a hard plastic resin. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THESE WILL WORK. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED IN ANY WAY. I would just need a domestic address to send to.

Hi,

I can test this gear to confirm that it works. And I can also contact a machinist friend who could likely reproduce it in metal....brass or aluminum or SS.

Dan
Did you want one? I have a few left.

Back in the day (mid 1980s), before 'Mud, on the LCML, we developed a theory about the plastic gear. We theorized that Mr. T, in his infinite wisdom, had designed the gear to be the "fuse" in the rear window lift system. It was plastic so as to fail before the worm gear that drives it. The plastic gear is the easiest to get to and replace. The cheapest too. The plastic gears were available at the Dealer long after everything else in that rear window mechanism was discontinued. The Dealers fiche didn't show it, but if you knew the part number you could order it (Fun with Dealers...(trace Pig content) - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fun-with-dealers-trace-pig-content.49268/).
Now, this was Mr. T's first try at an electrically powered window, and, as in most things Early LandCruiser, he overbuilt it. That is a big motor, and lots of leverage. Those spring loaded arms will take a finger off if you're not careful. If something's gotta blow, make it that gear.
With these new-fangled plastic printers that kids have these days we can make a ship load of them. Out of plastic. Nobody is needing the worm gear replaced, plastic gear does it's job. Brass or aluminum or SS might look really good and last forever, but you risk breaking something really, really unobtainable.

Definitely want one......as I don't have a back-up right now. Have you received feedback from others who have installed the gear?

My address is:

Happy to pay for shipping and handling.

Thanks!
I have not gotten any feedback. I did try one on my truck briefly and it worked. I immediately took it out. I will get you one sent out.

A nice gentleman uploaded an .stl file to the fb pig sty today available for anyone to download for free. Not trying to steal anyone’s thunder, and I appreciate the OPs contribution to this community. Thank you @Drice !!!

That is good news. Hopefully, we can have some alternate sources for this odd ball part. I couldn't believe how hard it was to find. On the other hand the search is part of the adventure.

I am about ready to dig into my pig tailgate window in January. Plan is to get it working again by replacing the window channel felts and the gear since mine is cracked.

@Drice
I just installed your gear this morning and the window operates better than ever. Nice and smooth on the up and down. The fit on the post was excellent as well.

Sorry for the delay in getting you some feedback. Do you plan on fabricating more?

Thanks again for the successful demo!

Dan
That is great. You are the first feedback I have gotten. I have dropped the ball on it. I got distracted. If needed I can get the printer to make some more.
