I purchased this Cruiser about 4 years ago while living in Colorado. I had plans to turn this into a great weekend 4x4 for camping and trail riding. Plans change however and I moved back to Louisiana. Since then I have tinkered with it here and there but not be able to commit any real time, money, or energy into it. The FJ55 is the second model design for the Landcruiser series. The first was the FJ40 which was more Jeep like in appearance. The newer retro version that recently came out is a combination of the FJ40 and FJ55. The FJ55 (or Ironpig and some in the community call it) was the first wagon SUV for Toyota. The truck is strong but needs some work. I drove it down from CO to LA pulling another vehicle with no problems (except a long stopping distance).

The version I have is a 1972 FJ55. It came with an inline 6 cylinder and 3 speed transmission. This was swapped for the later model 2F engine and a 4 speed w/ split transfer case by the previous owner before more. The truck is in relatively good condition minus the usual issues a 35 year old vehicle has. The FJ needs some work on the following: the exhaust was never mated back up fully after the engine swap, the carb needs adjusting for low altitude, the brakes need cleaning and adjustment, there is some rust on the floorboards, quarter panels and lower door sills (normal for this vehicle). I have numerous parts from the previous owner as well as some I have acquired while trying to restore and repair it. I also have just about every shop manual and part book for the truck. Again the FJ55 is over 35 years old and needs some TLC but could be a great rig for someone. Some other things to note are that this truck did not come with Power Steering or AC (each are available with aftermarket conversions); Disc brakes would also be recommended if you are interested in restoring it for everyday driving.

Price: $2500
Engine: 2F, 6 cylinders
Transmission: 4 speed manual
Model: FJ55
Year: 1972
Mileage: Unknown after engine swap

i agree....i was lookin hard at it...

don't like the rattlecan spray but the guy is nice and honest. needs front axle donor, carb attention, exhaust attention, brake attention though.....overall, i'd say cool rig though

I know that truck! I helped the previous owner install the 2f, trans, and t-case. I towed it all over Colorado Springs when ever he would move (2 fj55's strapped together causes a lot of attention). I never did hear it run but he always told me that he should let me have it when he gets shipped out. He was military and got shipped to alaska last I heard. Next thing I know it was for sale for a huge price. I did get to talk to the current owner before he moved south. He was all excited to get it running good, I wonder what happened.

I remember that the engine ran good with no leaks. We installed a new clutch when we put the driveline in. He had the driveshafts custom made here locally. We removed the rear springs in my garage and he had them re-arched. The rear used to look like a hot rod until the springs settled back down. Other than that the interior was clean. It sat outside for most of the time I knew him but he kept a car cover over it. It is a nice truck. Worth owning I think.
