Please if anyone can help
I have a 45 to restore and currently away from vehicle and cant check. Does rear cab top unbolt from vehicle or is it completly fixed. the rig is a 1974

My '76 HJ45 does and older ones I have seen all do too, so I assume yours does but couldn't guarantee it as haven't got a '74 to look at.

Yes it does.

I have a '74 FJ45 so I got you a pic. There are 8 bolts that I can see that are located in the rib between the top and bottom sections halfway up the back of the cab. I have numbered where they are in the first pic.

Interestingly, the roof of mine is attached to the top of the windscreen frame by 3 hold down clamps (second pic). I would have thought this would be for a removable top, but my rear cab is bolted on and not clamped like a removable top model. Maybe a crossover year perhaps.

Lupdog. Thank you very much.
Very helpful. Mine doesnt have hooks on roof.
Would that mean roof bolted i assume
It definately wouldnt be welded?

No welds. I have taken a roof of an '82 many years ago - maybe just a couple of bolts to the top of the windshield and screws in the corner. All bolted together, but be prepared to snap some of those bolts unless you are lucky.

I just tookoff my upper cab back and roof on the '74 two nights ago. I had to drill the heads off the screws in the brackets at the top corners of the windshield but the bolts all came out thankfully. I will need to be finding replacement rubbers for where the roof meets the cab too - it was so brittle that it just snapped.

I am curious about your rig. Have you owned it a long time? While we never got the 45 here in the US after 67 our 40 models never came up with the combo you have. I know the clamps against the top of the windscreen were not on the 40 series that wiper setup was. It stopped with the 74 model. Those doors you have as well as the latch on the cab were a 75 and later. So either yours was pieced together at some point or a true change over model. Have your dated it off the info on Specter's site. I would have thought the change from clamps to bolts would happened on the Windscreen and back of the cab at the same. :meh:

It's a bit of a mystery. :hhmm:

I don't want to hijack here John so I have another thread about this ute going on over in the 45 section:

I will address the points in your post over there. :)
