It can be done.
The holes on the top for the hard top will not line up.
As you know the wiper system is completely different.
The "WIDE" hinges on the 1976 windshield are to allow for the external motor to not lay on the front cowl when the windshield is folded down. I will describe "Wide" as from the windshield to the front of the vehicle.
It does not matter which hinges you use for the 1972 windshield frame.
Make sure the bumper on the hood line up as well.
