Hey all, trying to find the cause of my new death wobble that started when I had my "new" bfg a/t used tires mounted to my used steelies.

I can not put on or remove the front wheels without a bfg due to the hub beauty casing being deformed after years of mutation.

Any thoughts on how to remove? Looks almost like the cylinder casing has fused to the hub...

I presume the tub casing around the locking hub is not physically attached the the vertical hub that holds all the lugs?

BFH and a chisel! There are little clips that hold it onto the hub, that's it.

If that fails you, use a dremel or grinder to cut a slot in the cover and pound it open.

I'm chiseling right where they intesect... Is this the right place to go at it?

See in between the two top lugs

Yup, that's right. Don't go too hard chiseling down, because the sleeve isn't that thick.

Once you get enough space to fit a pry bar inbetween the sleeve and the hub, try to pry that sleeve out towards the warn hub.

Getting closer, tried a new spot.

I see the light at end of the tunnel!

@GLTHFJ60 - that was a leap of faith that I don't regret. Thanks for giving me the confidence to start annual sting some 37yr old metal

Man those things are dumb, total breeding ground for cancer... It's a real mess under there

One down, one to go... I'll report back if it helps the wobble at all...

Awesome :D

Get a wire wheel and some brake cleaner out and clean up that hub. It'll all be exposed now when you mount the wheel.

Oh me so happy, for some reason those casings were the root cause of my death wobble! No more shakes after removing both of them.

Can't quite figure out why the old wheels didn't have the same issue with them on... Must have been a different size since they went in and off easier.

Holy rust batman... I agree with @GLTHFJ60 that I should put on some protection ... On another weekend though

Ya we did discuss, once I got in there I got gun shy, worried that the tube/casing was physically connected to a spacer or something.

Needed some confidence before inflicting damage.

I am surprised how thin that material was once I ruptured it.

Thanks for the help guys, so happy to be able to drive this thing safely again.
