Would love to see pics of this ... before, during and after installation of the kit.

We have been making these for 10 years now, time to stiffen up yours!

These are Reinforcement Plates to box the rear of your FJ40, they are .1875" (3/16) thick Steel Plate. Made to strengthen an inherently weak area on an FJ40, opinions differ on whether or not Boxing the frame should be done so do your research. We believe the frame should be stiff and the suspension should be doing the flexing. Flexing the frame loosens the rivets and slowly tears it apart. This comes with a 1.75" x .120" replacement crossmember with 4 predrilled placement options, one of the holes is at the stock position and the others are spaced 3" on center, one in front and 2 behind the stock position. If you are adjusting your WB way back we would recomend 2 Crossmembers to retain the structural rigidity gained by the frame boxing itself and the Crossmembers provided are long enough to allow mounting through the existing frame also (just drill 1.75" holes through the frame using the Plates as a guide). These are designed to fit within the frame itself so you do not have to remove the tub to install, however you do have to remove the factory Crossmember and mounting plate and reposition the rear brake line. The short angled plates are made 1/8" long to allow for movement that has already occured. Welding Required!

It would be nice if their were more holes in the side plates for access like the rest of the frame.

I might suggest to buyers that they inset the plates enough for a fillet weld. It's much easier to get a good weld in that setup.
More forgiving for the beginning to intermediate welder
That is a great point, weather you weld it flush, as though it was box-tube, or set the reinforcement in a 1/4-3/8" the strength benefits are virtually the same, and it can be a ton easier to weld if you aren't as comfortable.

Sorry for the delay!

Looks like shipping is about $50 for these to your zip, and the plates are $185. They do not fit in any USPS flat rate box so they have to go UPS, which is why it's a little pricey.

Thankfully though you can always save 10% on the plates themselves (or anything else we make) by entering MUD10 at checkout which will save you 18.50 (almost half the shipping cost). that is unless we have a better sale going on whenever you are checking out ;-)
