I thought since a lot of people don't use their ashtrays out there, you could have an alternative for that space. I have a working prototype of a drink holder to go in place of the ashtray. I'm gauging interest in this project. Target price is $125.. The item is the working prototype and will have a much better finish for production models. I'm also working on retaining the original ashtray door.

Cheers

That's why it's always a good idea to put it out there. Get a feel on things.

Currently it looks like it would accommodate a taller drink container if it didn't have the dash. Pre-67.

I would TOTALLY buy one of those, if we cN have it look like it still have the factory ashtray & pull.

But, do it like my Toyota Gen 3 4Runner rear cup holder and when you pull the handle (in the back of the center console for the front seats) the cup holder expands out and to the sides and is 2 cup holders and will fit a variety of cup or bottle sizes. If I still had my Gen 3 4Runner I would take pics and video of it opening for you. Maybe someone on here has one and can send that to you.

…or non US models.😉

Think if a section went towards the bottom instead of top would allow for a taller drink. Trick would be to have a semi flat area. That would make it more complicated to built. Location on the dash would make hard to reach while driving on pavement. Off road see it spilling against the dash.

If anyone has a Gen3 4Runner, take a couple of pics and maybe even a video of the back seat cup holder that comes out of the back of the center console for the front seat. That would be a perfect design for this because it can hold 2 cups + it has a flat piece that drops down for the bottom of the cups + flexible sizes. And it all definitely would fit the FJ40 ashtray opening. I would buy one!
