First time poster but long time user of the info shared here. I am in the process of rebuilding the carburetor for my recently acquired 1974 J40. Vehicle was not running when purchased but got it to run/sputter by feeding it with starting fluid. Fuel tank is trash and there is dried up fuel in the system. So I'm doing a entire fuel system clean/rebuild. When I opened up the carb I realized there are a few missing parts (circled in diagram below). Can anyone tell me what these actually do and if anyone might have them lying around on a shelf somewhere that I can purchase?

Parts Needed:
Gasket
Stopper - pump discharge
Weight - discharge

Carb tag# 60205
Date: Aug 30, 1973

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

thanks. I forgot to mention that I did post in the classifieds too. Appreciate the help.

I cannot help you with the parts. As for telling you what they do, I can. The job of the accelerator pump discharge chamber is to be constantly primed to squirt faster than a horny teenager!

The accelerator pump pushes fuel into the chamber. The checkball is supposed to seal the chamber so it stays primed. The counterweight helps ensure the checkball seals the chamber faster than it would on its own.
The stopper shunts the bulk of the pressure made by the plunger away from the seal and gasket, further increasing the odds the gas will come out the discharge nozzle.

Hth

PS You can interchange the stopper and spring from a 2F carb if need be. Form follows function, and while the parts don’t look the same, they perform the same function.

Thanks 65swb45. Good info. Appreciate you sharing that

I usually start my searches at Lakeland Toyota in Florida website. If there is a price, the part is almost always available. If the part is discontinued by Toyota (in the US) the website will indicate it. At the least you can always pull the Toyota part number(s) and cross reference to newer vehicles that often use the same parts. If you put together a parts list and call the service dept. there they have been VERY helpful sourcing OEM parts for me. They sell wholesale, so usually I can order from FL delivered to my house cheaper than I can order Retail and drive to a local Toyota dealership to pick up the parts.
It appears that the gasket and stopper you're looking for are still available from Toyota OEM. 2164933080 - Toyota Gasket | Toyota Parts Overstock, Lakeland FL - https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/__/GASKET/4136892/2164933080.html

Hope this helps. Just rebuilt my 1972 carb (60202) a couple weeks ago. Ordered some OEM screws that PO had stripped phillips head on. Discontinued on a FJ carb., but same part number still available for a 22R carb..

Awesome MW4K&AC!
Appreciate the help and the link. I'll check it out and let you know.

Thanks MW!
Checked them out and ordered the parts online. Often I order online with my local dealer for my 80 but for some reason they didn't show any of these parts as available. Lakeland did have them though...funny how some can get them and some can't. Anyway, I appreciate the help! I'll definitely keep them in mind for the future too
