Picked up the paper this morning and listed for sale was a 1960 FJ25. I don't know anything about the condition, or anything about a 25 to be honest. What is something like this worth in fair running condition? He is asking $2K.

$2k sounds OK, but the 25 lends itself to being hacked........best bet is to take a look at the classified section to get an idea of others for sale and things to look for. If you go look at it, snap a few pictures inside and out and we can pick it apart for you.............

Don't tell me the VIN number................................and keep the location secret if you want it. :grinpimp:

Fox is either going to buy himself out of the non-functional 25 clique......................or maybe he's hoping it doesn't run so he can fully appreciate having multiple non runners. :flipoff2:

Propilot, seriously if you get some details we'll help you figure out what it is.....................:D

I spoke with the owner and was able to gather a little info. It is definitely a 25. The only rust it supposedly has is somewhere around the tailgate. It has a 70's vintage engine that was running until the battery went dead. It has a 4 speed tranny and comes with an extra 3 speed with the txfr case. No hard top just a soft. He went on about a few other things but nothing of great significance. The rig is sitting on a trailer of some sorts and it is part of the deal. I am hoping to look at it tomorrow, but I am also putting disc brakes on the rear of my 40. The guy bought the thing years ago to restore and never got around to it. He sounds like a real nice older fellow. No BS, if you know what I mean. The rig is in Montana if anyone has an interest. I am too deep into my 40 right now for another project. Unless you all thing this would be a good investment.

A 25 is not a good investment. You have to be willing to tackle the oddball, even more so if you want to go original. Resale isn't there, and there are several pretty complete or project rigs that just haven't sold. You have to find the right nut case to buy one.

Four speed would be the original tranny if its got the one speed transfer with centered output and band parking brake. Later F will bolt up to the bellhousing. If a three speed or later four speed were installed the crossmember had to be cut.

Main thing to check is the body condition and how much of the original stuff is there, namely the grille, trim (emblems) and wheels. Original soft top parts are a big plus. All of that and an original drivetrain would make it worth $2k for me. Figure it the same as an early 40.

I'm with Dave, get some pics, even cruddy ones. And the VIN# if possible, may or may not be a 1960.

MT is Phil's territory....................he's probably already been in touch. :grinpimp:

Are you by any chance referring to me?? :o

Plus, nothing will ever be considered a good investment as long as the word keeps going out that it's not. The value of anything is always perceived, until otherwise diminished. ;)

Steve, notice that we haven't seen a brisk market for 25's since you bought yours............................ ;p

A 25 is a fine investment , I'm banking that they'll increase in value long term.................just like my 401k.

So we have no pics yet......................and we haven't heard from Phil in three days................... Shootout at the FJ25 corral when everyone showed at once?:D
