fj25 doors?

You sure you want to do that?

I'd have to agree with an earlier comment, just leave as is as much as possible, and enjoy it...I don't think you'll find too many of those laying around in that condition.

I'm not into bling either, but at least I would try to live with it, or take it off, and replace it with another one...even an aftermarket glass one...before I destroyed the chrome. That's always assuming that this is original chrome.

My .02 cents.

BTW, really nice ride. Not too many people get the chance to find something like this, I'd be grateful as well.

At least you can buy yourself a gas cap (not the big style)! :D I'm always amazed when I see a Cruiser survive in that kind of shape. Leave it as-is and treat it to a new drivetrain.

Only three pics to a post unfortunately. ;)

Tides have taken a turn with the '62 FJ40, I will be trying my hardest to return it to as original as possible:)

Damn! and I was going to ask if you were going to get rid of that heater. That is the one I need. Searching high and low for another one like it.

The heater that came out of MY '62 was at best a dealer hack job. I won't be putting it back in but unfortunately it's already spoken for.

Do a search in this section, there are some nicer ones that were installed into the FJ25's that were more common and look alot nicer.

There is a nice picture of one posted by Jim (aka Cruiser Nerd) in the thread "Little Treasures" page 3, post #61

Let me know if you guys want the pictures...I could get around to posting if you really want them. Also...These door could be for sale...the top mabey too. Im in the works for the soft top bows and canvas . I actually have my original canvas doors that go with this rig.

Now that I actually have a set of these doors in hand (came with my recent FJ25), they're really very simplistic. Only thing on them that's even remotely complicated would be the weatherstripping guide, and even that doesn't look that hard to deal with.

Even the latches would be easy to duplicate with a few shop tools.

Those doors look great...but to get the right "look" you would really need the corrugated top/sides/bi-fold back door !!!

My thought on these would be to start with a set of the later soft top doors. Take the wing window out move the sliding window channels forward, shorten the back and bottom of the door to match the earlier door and your most the way there. Both doors share the same weather striping channel design. If you end up making the latches I could use a couple sets.

I don't think it would be necessary to destroy a set of later model factory soft top doors to get a decent finished product. The layout on them would be easy to duplicte.

The problem would be in my time spent making, I could never expect to recoop, back to the ole labor of love theory. I am seriously contemplating making some soft half doors for my '62 though.

As far as the trim/wetherstripping guide, I think a similarly sized piece of c-channel would work nicely. Then silicone/adhere the new weatherstripping in place. I'm certain most would never even notice the difference.

While I am carefull with the money I spend on my projects, I never look as my time in the dollar sense. Simply put, just as you stated, these are our labors of love...just how all hobbies should be. Building is just as much fun as driving...at least it is to me!

I like your idea of duplicating rather that cutting them up. Sounds like a great project. Hope you post up how you do them
