What do you guys get for real time gas mileage in the FJ? By real time I mean not EPA estimates.

Every tank it gets better so far...by the time I hit 20K miles it should be getting about 100mpg ;)

Reality...
15.5 in the first tank
16.0 in the second tank
16.5 in this last tank

I got 19.3 on the highway only trip when I picked it up.

This on a manual with a 3" lift, knobby tires and no roof rack.

This is what I expected, but my mileage sux. best hiway was 15.5, avg in town is 14.5. I drive calm and low rpm's, not racing or anything. Now, I do have 285's, roof rack and 2.5" lift and run the A/C constantly (live in Phoenix), but I expected more than 220 miles before the fuel light comes on. I'm almost at 3K miles and have not seen any marked improvement. This is not consistent with my 3 previous Toy Trux. I'm planning on taknig it for a diagnostic.

Manual Full Time 4WD.

4WD. Auto. Pirelli Scorpions
2K miles now.

Mostly freeway but heavy traffic. Not a lead foot but I don't baby it either.

Right in the 18MPG range. No more, no less since day one.

I start hunting a gas station at around 260 to 270 miles.

The FJ is heavy, 4200#, and shaped like a brick. 18 MPG is terrific in my book.
Also runs fine here in flat old Florida on Plus grade fuel.

Mileage will improve considerable (2-3mpg) after you go past 5mpg. That's how it's been with every single toyota I've owned. Corolla XRS, FJ-70, FJ-40, and now FJ Cruiser.

I used to get 220-230 when the idiot light came on. Now at 7k I get pretty close to 280 and I drive it average. I do go shift at 3 3.5k sometimes.. Ussually between 1.5 2 k rpms. I'm getting 18, 19 depending on how I drive it.

Manual MT6, roof rack, 285 BFG ATs.

Its good to hear that, I'm also getting 220 (my best was today at 227) consistent to idiot lite for 2900 miles. My previous 3 toy 4x4's achieved a tank to tank improvement from new. The fj has been slower, I'm up to 15.3 from an original 14.3, and I have been driving sedate, when on the road.

I have not gotten under 17.5 yet. I'm averaging around 18.5 and have gotten 21 on a highway roadtrip. I only had a few hundred miles on it then, so hopefully, it will get even better.

Mine is a 4x4 auto, roof rack, OEM tires (for now), and I've been using the lowest grade unleaded.

I'm happy so far, I thought I would get less at this point.

I have 1800 miles on mine. It's a 4X4, M/T and the best MPG I've gotten is 15.67.

My friend has the automatic and he consistently gets 19 to 21 mph.

Regards

19.6 on the first tank, 20.5 on the second, 18.8 on the third, and 21.65 on the forth. It is an AT.

The FJ gets great MPG

Well I used to own a VW toureg, and I bought the FJC for looks and gas milege, I would only get 10-15 MPG all the time city and hwy so the FJ gets great gas milege as far as i"m concerned:eek:

woohoo! I'm up with scooterpilot - at 3100 miles to date my best was yesterday's fill up at 15.6 mpg, summer city driving in phoenix with a/c max all the time. I'm gonna go to synthetic oil and put 40psi in the BFG's and see what difference that makes...
