get new locking hubs(or fix yours) or new OEM drive flanges(gasket and maybe the cone washers) and you will have fixed the problem. I am 110% sure from what you discribe there is nothing wrong with your transfer case, its just a bad hub(s)

the best locking hubs are AIsin hubs(OEM for other cruisers) and I think you can use the same ones a fj60,62, 85 and before mini truck hubs on your fj80.

The hub locks have the words Super wench printed on them. i can select one of two positions one that is labled 4X2 and the other that is labled 4X4. When the mid dif lock is off and the hub lock is set to 4x4 the grinding noise is in the front hubs. when the mid dif lock is off and 4x2 is selected the noise sounds like it is in the transfer case. should I just can these after market hubs and go back stock?
