That is the area code for Southern Alberta, so it may be that it is a new arrival to the U.S.

Judging by the fact that it is also on a U-Haul trailer, it looks like your friend was just lucky enough to see it arrive.

Looks really nice though. I never saw it for sale in the local classifieds. Wish I had.

I called the number and spoke with the owner Carol.
It is all original 1981. It was her friends father's rig and they are helping them sell it. It has recently passed Canadian inspection and has 165km on it. (101,00 mile).

They are asking $26,000 but have had not takers

They are currently taking it to an collector car auction in Red Deer, Albert for this weekends sale.

Here is the listing with pictures.

Sale should be over on sunday.

Good Luck

Don't believe FJ45LP-U would be a truck imported to Canada. Would also think it would have a H41 or H42 not a J30 three speed. My guess is also has one piece transfer case instead of a split case like a 81 would have. Very clean truck but it a shinny new paint job. If not full of bondo could be a very good truck for the money. Maybe I'm wrong and it is a Canadian truck but those had air relief behind the B pillar in the top. Could this be a truck imported to the mines in Canada?

Interesting. Pre 8/80 build, no heater, no rear bed side markers, no typical Canadian upper seat harness anchors, earlier brake master cylinder.
Guessing was sourced elsewhere, and later imported. Nice find.

Confusing.
Looks like recent paint and clear coat, from Guatemala, is a friend's truck, February photos possibly posed in Central America, seen in Washington in March, with phone in Canada-- but Ebay says it sold two weeks ago in USA for 21K, now wants 26K, and is off to a Canadian auction.

A buyer might want a few more specifics and details from owner to clear this up:
Where exactly is it currently registered and titled.
Was it recently spruced up in Guatemala and then imported to USA.
Has it been living in Canada all along, or in Central America.
Did it sell recently and is now being resold at a higher price.

Glad you got my drift.

But...........despite a lot of trucks with fishy ads that can never be seen in person, this was actually seen and photographed here in the States. So, if it has a truly legal title, and you are there, could be purchased in person and take immediate delivery on the spot. Unless, someone nefarious simply moves it around from state-to-state, and resells it dozens of times.

There was a similar one being hawked several years ago somewhere mid-state in California. It was Central American origin, early eighties model, an orange-ish brown color--supposedly located in a teeny out of the way town near the Nevada border. I called a real estate company there and had them check around their small town for it--no one had ever seen or heard of it or the seller. It later popped up in another small California gold-rush town--same situation. Just wire the money to the Western Union office, and I promise to send the title and ship the truck at no additonal charge. Such a deal !

In the answer to the question on the eBay auction it contained this "I chose to sell it through Ebay where you and I are both protected". Sound like a lot of the scams where they say the funds will go thru eBay services to protected both parties. They will hold on to the funds until the vehicle is delivered and inspected before funds are released. The auction did say sold.

So if your friend saw this truck on the U-Haul trailer in Seattle and it is now in Canada and has recently passed Canadian inspection and was recently for sale on Ebay then perhaps it did sell on Ebay to a Canadian and their intent is to take it back to Canada and resell it. However, I would think that the larger market for these trucks would be in the States so I wouldn't go that route if it were me.

Anyway, as all have stated, very fishy truck.

And does not look to be very well maintained if they can't even top up the filthy brake fluid. Also check out the fender badge.

And again, if they had been trying to help their friend sell it and have had no bites I would have seen it posted locally.

Oh, and from the Ebay ad: "why I do not call it perfect, is because it has a small tear on the driver's side seat."

There's obviously more reasons than that one.

the VIN tag on the driver side has been removed
