Would like to have info on lifting suspension best practices.

Here's what I want to achieve:
-Good smooth road handling, maybe even better than stock
-enough lift to put 33-9.5-16 tires and have an appropriate lifted look to match tire size
-mild off roading only

Have read lots do far.
SOA, inverting shackles to have fixed side in front on front diff, longer shackles, Alcan springs vs ome.

Need insight please

Starting project and am trying to evaluate.
Thing for sure is I like to do things right, understand what I'm getting into and have no regrets.

Then call Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters and get the OME suspension. He'll get you set up.

Decide what you want to do with the truck... I don't mean the kind of wheeling as much as how much weight you will carry daily, loaded and if you will go topless in the summer. These all greatly affect the ride from the same setup.

The OME kits will give 2.5" of lift and the rest can me made up with extended shackles. Kurt will walk you through the details and will be up front with all of the pros and cons. I loved my OMEs and wish they had a true 4" spring for the 40 series.

I had Alcans made up for my truck. They did a great job and the customer service was incredible (they replaced my rear springs 4 times to get the ride height and quality I wanted - They had never built springs for the BJ44 before). The only thing I feel they didn't do a good job on was to incorporate caster correction into spring design.

You can put 33s under a 45 with the OME 2.5 and good room for moderate wheeling, especially with the 9.5s as the wheel will move into the fenders on articulation. It will also be more stable with the lower lift and I think it looks great and not too 'trail built' for normal use.

Anybody know the stock fender height or some sort of spring height reference got the 1978 fj 45.
I know that my springs have sagged and would like to evaluate by how much. Could influence if I chose 2.5 lift or 4 lift.

go 4" with skinny 9x16 michelin xl ,about 100$ a piece near trois-riviere

this is not my 45:crybaby: the pic is from the diesel section
i use 4 inchs skyjacker in my fj40 with 35 tire ,but its not a fj45 ,maybe 60 serie springs or alcan ,you dont want springs that are to short ,because it give bad shackle angle and bumpy ride :bounce:
you shoud look in the 45 section for more accurate advice
