New to the forum. Looking for help in selecting a power steering kit for a 64 fj-40.
stock motor. is there a kit out there that has everything i need?

thanks.

Pretty much anything you do for a 1964 FJ40 is going to be invasive, requiring a new steering column as the '64 steering column is one-piece all the way to the steering box and, I think, includes column shifting. So you would have to do a floor shift mod on top of a column mod to get this done.

By the way, didn’t see this earlier but it’s the wrong subforum. An FJ Cruiser is not an FJ40.

And since 64 FJ40s are so old, the guys in the 25 section share some interest, and usually like to see pics or history of the truck, especially if it’s stockish.

I installed a Toyota mini truck power steering unit on mine. It only changes out the steering box. You will need a power steering pump, I have a SBC so no problem for me but not sure if you have a stock early engine.

Any Pictures?
I have a power steering box from a 1984 mini truck and looks identical to manual box on my 1977 FJ45

Sorry for the dirty components but I think 84 mini truck will work. You’ll need the bracket to mount to frame, available for around 100 bucks from JT Outfitters. The steering joint is also 100 bucks from Flaming River. I used my steering column, had the shorten it. Pitman arm from same mini truck and everything else stayed stock. I’m running 33’s with no problems even in slow crawling.

Hey mate, do you have a link to the steering uni? I've been searching for one for this exact conversion for my truck. Very hard to source the right uni without the box in front of you!

Just google Flaming River Steering Companies or JT Outfitters Toyota Parts and you will find them.
