Great place this is. Minor "mods" on the "new" 100 thanks to you all (and to Slee, for the ones on the 80, before this forum's time).

Thanks. Plan: new/better tires needed, then get off pavement (any recommendations for my location? "rookie" is right, re experience on trails, etc.).

Good BFG v. Nitto tire talk right now. My 100 won't see a lot of snow, and is daily driver. There must be a go-to tire for treadlife, cost, and acceptable a/t performance (no snow). Tires will be the biggest cost put into the 100 so far, and it will be some time after that before the next money-mod will be feasible. So tires (and maybe crank the t-bars a little, and "misplace" the running boards, for free) will have to tide me over. Thanks again for the welcome and good advice.

You might try Hollister - Hollister Hills SVRA

Not a lot of public land in CA, especially on the coast. There are more opportunities in the sierras.
