I've been a Cruiser-Lurker for quite a while now (DTLC, 80sCOOL, Norcal and, of course, MUD).
Finally found the right one and purchased an Emerald Green 1997 LX450 with 113K (yes -- with lockers
). Its immaculate except for the leather on the driver's seat and steering wheel.
Can one graduate to Cruiser-Head by purchasing a Lexus???
PO left a few opportunities, though: Antenna mast is bent, no lights on dash when transfer case is in low, low fuel light is always on.
My wife kept looking at me funny when I wasn't concerned about these on a "new" vehicle. I had little fear, even though I'm a zero-banana machanic.
Sho'nuf, a little SEARCHing here found trouble-shooting info on the dash lights; quick trip to the truck with paperclip in one hand and keys in the other yielded results: one of the transfer case sensors was out.
I couldn't find anthing on the low-fuel light, though
I had to call Dan-the-man (CDan) to order up a bunch of baselining (is that a word?) parts, so I added the sensor. While on the phone with him, I asked about the fuel light, and he said it was probably the (a?) fuel sender.
I've also ordered a few accessories from Slee (gotta have that oh-so-cool Cup Holder
), several gallons of various synthetics from AmsOil, Toyota Red & BG 44K from my local Dealer, and FSM/EWD/etc from Toyota MDC.
I figure 6-8 weeks of intermittant work to baseline the vehicle (brakes, front & rear axle service, fluids, belts, hoses including PHH, cap, rotor, plugs and wires, pcv), and install some basic accessories (skidplate, LEDs, CDL switch, cup holder, CB, hi-lift roof-rack bracket). By the time I finish all of that, I hope to have earned my first
Later this year (summer/fall), I plan to install 285/75R16 tires (leaning towards siped BFG MTs), OME Medium, Sliders, and Front & Rear Bumpers.
At that point, I'll slow down, and start working on longer-term projects (Winch, Drawer, OBA, Aux Tank, ...).
I'm looking forward to getting out and testing the capabilities of the truck (awesome, I'm sure), and driver (anemic right now, but I'm working on it!).
At 3 & 4 (almost 5), our kids already like "driving on the rocks" in our AWD Honda Pilot... I can't wait to get them out with the LX!
Enough of a tome for now... gotta go make some bucks to pay for the junk-in-the-mail!
Hants
