Hi All, I have a White 2019 that is about to turn over 100,000 miles and I've been waiting for this moment since I bought the vehicle. Currently, the changes I have made are the OEM front spacers and it is sporting BFG 285/65 on the stock wheels. I have also removed the running boards and added the really nice LED tailgate light that I purchased from a gentleman on this forum. (forgive me for not remembering which one) For phase two of its evolution I plan on having a chrome delete, rear seat removal, Prinsu roof rack and Icon Vector 5s in bronze. I was originally going to add a two inch lift but after driving it these past few years I really have found no reason to for more ground clearance. My question is... I was originally thinking I would switch to a 17" wheel just because I like a little more side wall. But...I'm now wondering if someone who has way more experience with mods would recommend sticking with the 18" wheel. Any pros and cons to either of these setups would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All!

It looks like your mods are either cosmetic or for light duty uses. I suspect you don't need more sidewall for your use case, so I would go with whatever size wheel looks best to you and has the tires you want available for those wheels.

Correct! I don't see much more than some dirt/gravel switchbacks in the GA foothills that are pretty well taken care of.

Yeah, if you're okay keeping your current rims, then you might as well spend that substantial amount of rim money on something else you'll use or appreciate daily (like the other aesthetic changes you mentioned, window tint, LRA fuel tank, etc.) But that being said, a lot of joy also comes from loving how your Cruiser looks everytime you walk up to it, so if you'll like the 17" rims better then do it!

I am not sure the sidewall difference between 17 and 18 is worth it, and oem wheels are hard to beat. If you really want more sidewall then you could probably fit larger tires through various means, but if what you have is working for you then no need to change.

Take the money and use it to fund some cool road trips.

My mistake I thought the vector 5 came in an 18 as well. I guess that settles that.... So with that said I'd love to hear any opinions on tire recommendations for 17" wheels on stock suspension.

Yeah I get that but I really would like to give the vehicle a more desirable look with the wheels. Also, please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the wheel offset will bring the tires out a bit more towards the fenders as well?

I was in your position 6 weeks ago. This thread helped me very much. Yes I read all 21 pages and followed the advise.

Those Vector 5 wheels look super cool, but a note about 17" vs 18" rims, more sidewall does mean more tire flex/roll and therefore more waywardness on the road. So going bigger tire than stock (more sidewall) and smaller rim (even more sidewall) could make a noticable difference in highway stability manners. Particularly if you add a roof rack (weight up high). These are not quite as cool looking , but the Method 706 comes in 18" for a similar price 706 | Method Bronze - https://www.methodracewheels.com/collections/wheels-bronze/products/706-method-bronze?variant=39635697074237, or you could look for a set of the LC Heritage edition wheels, which are 18". I would love a set of those for mine!

Yeah, don’t get me wrong. I love my vectors. They are a good looking wheel. It is a great option for an aftermarket wheel.

The thread that ryanCA posted is just about the most thorough resource there could be as far as sizes and fit go.

The vectors are a +25 offset and will push out a little more than stock. There are probably quite a few options as far as sizes go.

If you are going to replace your tires anyways, I always favor going for a more durable tread/sidewall than you think you might need.

Toyota recommends LT285/70R17 tires on 17 x 8 x 50mm TRD wheels: TRD Wheel/Tire Data Sheet From Toyota

Note: this wheel/tire combination has no rubbing on an otherwise stock vehicle, but if you use a wheel with less offset than the 50mm recommended in the data sheet (like 25mm, 30mm, 35mm, etc) you will most likely experience some rubbing.
