Great thread Dan!

I partake in cutting about 5-7 cords a year with my dad who heats most of his home with wood during the cold season. Personally I use about 1/2 a cord to burn n the fire ring in the back yard.

I generally haul my wood in my 5X8 utility trailer pulled with my 80 or will use my dads Tacoma.

I use a Stihl 028 WB with a 16" or "18 bar and my dad uses a Stihl 290 Farm Boss with a 18" bar. Most of the time we use spliting mauls to break down the big stuff, but occasionally we will rent or borrow a splitter.

Right now we burn in the fire ring in the back yard, bit down the road we will put a wood burning stove in the basement.

Pics to follow.

Cut about 8+ cords a year, Burn about 5-6 cords a winter and try to keep two years worth on hand, mostly Doug fir with some tamarack, & birch, Just started to sell the rest.

Use a Stihl 044 & 362.

Haul most of it in the back of the pickup. Would like to find a little military trailer to use.

Last two seasons borrowed a DR centrifugal splitter from my neighbor, speedy lil bugger until you hit the large stuff, prior to that it was all by hand.

This might sound crazy but I find the entire process very relaxing, Wish I had more time to do it

A good friends sons bought a load of wood to heat his house. He found out the load was 100% green citrus. It is a pain to light and burns extremely hot once it get lit. Hot as in warp the wood stove kinda heat.
He came over and we cut him a load of Oak for his Christmas present. My friend was so happy he bought the chainsaw I let him use. Landowner was happy since he got the $$ for the load.

With 3 saws running, it doesn't take long. Two truck and trailer loads like this takes about an hour.

LOL. Ya. Beater car though. It was a very slow drop so the windshield frame was not damaged. Notice that I did move the 4Runner.

Probably cut down 40 or so skinny Maples like that around the perimeter of the woodline and that's been the only miss.

Great pics! Looks like some shots around Yokohl Valley. Being from Visalia, I banged around there quite a bit.

Finally, someone who may cut more than I do. I have some mountain property in the Snowy Range Mountains here in Wyoming. The pine beatle came through in the mid 2000's and totally did their thing. The funny thing is, the forest is coming back better than ever. Here are some pictures, somehow though I don't have any of our saws. We like Stihl, of course.

Yes, beautiful Merhten Valley! I plan to be in Visalia around Feb. If you have some seasoned oak to sell, my Dad sure could use some. I'll have my Tacoma to haul. Or if you know of a good source/seller. My Dad is in Visalia.

Damn, I want to come and help. My back could use the exercise. Just kidding, the 6 foot long 3 foot round that started chasing me down the hill when the cable came loose is good enough.
