Finished Rehabbing Intake/Exhaust Manifold, but I have a question:

So I finished rehabbing both pieces. This included having the mating surface machined/ground as one piece.

As I was putting the Intake Manifold onto the Exhaust, I noticed that the mating surface-where they both meet-isn't completely flush.

I tried putting it it together first and tightening the bolts on top, then the ones on the bottom(and vice-versa)to try to get them to even out with not luck.

My question is this: Even if it's off a little, will it come together(flush) once I "bolt" the whole assembly onto the head?

Maybe I should kind of loosen the intake bolts, mount the assembly to the head and then tighten the bolts that hold the intake to the exhaust(?)

I hope this makes sense.

Pictures will probably help you understand a little better.

Thanks

So did you have them bolted together when they where surfaced?

If one or both ends of the exhaust manifold don't line up with the rest that is not a problem cause they swivel.

I would put them together loosely then snug them to the head before you tighten the 5 bolts.

nope...

Yeah, they were both re-surfaced as one piece...I'll loosen the bolts up, bolt it to the head, then tighten these...unless anyone else has any input.

Thanks

Good chance: if ya loosen bolts between intake & exhaust manifolds, the gasket between them will fall out in pieces . . .

My 459K mile rig: double gasket manifold to head.

Had head refurb done (a/k/a valve job); double gasket mani to head: closed up very well.

X2 on the double manifold/intake gasket. Mine looked about the same as yours, havent had a problem in 6 months of dd. i used a sor gasket and a toyota gasket, toyota on the block side. I heard many people use double felpro gaskets with good results. I vote go for it and remember to re-torque after a dozen or so cycles. Good luck!
