Took two weeks to nail down the best shop to do this.
Guy was awesome. Replaced side mouldings too with brand new ones. No more wind noise...no more water leak. One very happy cruiser owner.

I clean my windshield pretty good from time to time, but how it looks driving out of the shop with the new glass is just nuts. It's like there's nothing there.

You're not kidding. I almost felt the wind whipping through my hair. Then I realized they left the side windows down :) love new glass though.

My windshield looked so good, it made my faded wiper arms and vent cover look worse. So today I fixed that:

My insurance carrier uses Safelite for glass claims. They installed Toyota glass. $100 deductible and its a no-fault claim.

Perfect. There have been some threads in the past regarding off-brand glass that isn't of the same quality nor (IIRC) did the installers use the factory rivets. Thread.

The local Safelite did a nice job each time. I knew.nothing about the rivets the first time but got the full story from the tech who obviously knew his stuff. No leaks no wind noise. Just like new. As the op said, the new glass is grin making stuff.

Do tell

Ok, I thought I was losing my mind. I had the front windshield replaced and I can't believe the wind noise. What has happened? I tried running silicone at the moldings and it made no difference. If I have the window replaced again, what should I look for?

Thanks.
Jeff

Look for a shop that knows cruisers. My guy was very familiar, used rivets, did a fantastic job. No
Leaks or wind noise. Cheapo installers will actually remove your old glass and leave a bed of urethane behind. They set new urethane on top of that and set the glass which causes all kinds of issues. I know because my first installer did it that way. Leaked, wind noise, etc. be super high maintenance. Ask them about the rivets. Tell them your last jnstaller did a terrible job. FWIW, safelite didn't want to do my glass.

Hi all,

This is the first time I've posted. I purchased a 2000 LC about a year and a half ago in south Texas during the dry season. When the first big rains hit I discovered my drivers side floorboard was soaked. I used these forums to trouble shoot, wasn't the sunroof drain, it's my windshield. Pretty bad rust in the top corners. Windshield had been replaced and it appears to be a poor job, random screws used instead of rivets. I currently live in Beaufort ,NC and would like to find someplace I can have the body work done on my truck, reprint and replace the windshield the right way. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I don't know anyone in that part of the world. I would try calling the Toyota and Lexus dealers and see who they use. Get that rust cleaned up and primed in the process, any reputable windshield guy should be able to clean it up. Unless its real bad.

TXLX100,

Thank you for the reply. The rust and the body work are my first priority. My intent is to have the windshield pulled and get all bodywork done. Reprint the whole truck and replace windshield. I don't mind spending the $$ if I know it is being done right. It seems difficult to find LC cults if one doesn't live in Cali or Colorado.

syrtus, the best option if you can spend the $$$'s is to to have the windshield pulled, and have a good body shop do the repair...it's important to prevent future issues. Then once that's done, have the glass guys put new glass in. I opted to spend the $400 and replace all my moldings too (side ones included).

The vent cover... Did you clean & paint or replace? Mine is looking a bit faded and I thought about trying to clean and repaint but I don't know how that will turn out. Thanks!

Not sure I ever responded via pm but I painted them black gloss
