After what I thought was going to be a never-ending search I finally bought my Land Cruiser. It's a 97, 111k miles, front and rear lockers. The interior is really clean - there are no cracks in the leather and all the carpeting is in great shape. There are a few very small paint chips other than that the body is very clean. Did I mention the lockers!!!

I was able to trade in my 5 spd 2004 Jeep Liberty :princess: and they gave me $1000 equity in return. The only thing the LC had was some slight seepage from the rear main seal - which they covered over and above the equity back to me. There was a receipt in the glove box from the PO and it looks like at 96k miles he had the following done at a Toyota dealer in Wyoming:

Flushed Radiator
Front and rear diff service
Serviced transfer case
Valve adjustment and replaced valve cover gasket
Power flushed the transmission
Repacked the Birf's and replaced the seals
Oil change.

Plus I found a maint log from the PO with all of the service that was done. Looks like he used dino oil every 3-5k miles with a Napa filter.

With the extra money I got back I replaced the tires, which had a bit of wear, with some 285/75/16 Dunlop Radial Rover RVXTs and changed the oil with Mobil 1 synthetic and a Toyota filter.

This thing drives like a dream, the engine compartment is dry and very clean, and all of the electronics inside work great.

I plan on being the last owner this LC ever sees...

I also forgot to mention that it had a brake job @ 10K miles ago as well.

Congrats, that sounds like a sweet rig. Why Dunflops for tires, IMO they are the worse tires out there. How much did you pay?

I've had great success with Dunlop tires. I had a pair of AT 32x11.50's on a 69 Bronco and some old 35x12.50 Radial Rover RVs on on an 89 Blazer and they never let me down.

They were asking 14,300 for the Land Cruiser. I got them down to 14,000 out the door and they gave me 15000 for my Liberty which is much better than KBB trade in value and slightly less than what I could have sold it for myself. I am really happy with the deal.

Thats a good deal, its about avg. for a locked rig of that year. The reason I say about Dunlops is that I had horrible luck with them on my 4runner got stuck and skidded a few times. The BFGs I have now are 100 times better.

well, took some fortitude to turn in an almost new rig for a 100K+ one. But that was a smart move. (Hopefully you're not married, wives don't understand this kind of logic... :D )
Welcome!

Sounds nice - hate to burst your bubble, but plan on changing those brake pads in 2-5K. Pads don't last long on these beasts, unless when you change rotors you upgrade to 100 series pads. Do a search on this issue. Plenty out there.

Ha! Actually I am married and I think my wife was tired of me taking my eyes off the road while driving to watch every Land Cruiser that we passed. After I brought it home and took her for a ride she knew I made the right decision. Plus, she knows how crazy I am about maintenance and knows how well these are built - from my incessant rambling about them. I think it translates into me being a really lucky guy for having such an understanding wife who's put up with my car obsessions for the past 10 years.

As far as the brakes - we will be making our annual Colorado to Boundry Waters trip this August. I figure before I go I will service the T-Case, diffs, and do the brakes at that time.

As soon as I get our digital camera fixed I'll try tp post a few pics.
