How in the hell does this thing come off? Or does it? I bought the kit to rebuild it, but can't figure out how to get it off the pittman arm?

Do you have to take the pitman arm off?

There is a cotter key in the very end that needs to be removed and then you unscrew the end until it comes off of the ball stud.

Remove the cotter pin from the end(left hand side in the above picture) and then the end cap can be unscrewed with a large flathead screwdriver. Once it's out a couple of turns, you'll be able to pop it off of the pitman.

If I'm correct in what you're asking, it's pretty easy. There should be a cotter pin perpendicular to the drag link, at the pitman arm end. Pull the cotter pin, then using a large flat blade screwdriver, unscrew the plug that's threaded in the end of the drag link. Inside the drag link there's a spring that holds the internals in place. With the spring removed the ball at the end of the pitman arm can be moved relative to the drag link - it's no longer captured inside the drag link. Just pull the pitman arm out of the drag link.

A lot of replies going on at once :-)

You guys rocked it!!! The picture was great, as well as, the explanation. I couldn't tell it was a cotter pin or feel the groove on the cap due to an excessive amount of grease and grime build up.

I blasted it with Carb/choke cleaner and PBR, and was able to pull it right off. I will post pics tonight.

Thank you guys for taking the time to explain this to me.
