Hello all you Happy people,

Looking for some input please. I have recently been thinking of trading my FJ40 or maybe even selling it and buying an FZJ80.

I stumbled across one on CL a few days ago and have been kicking it around. THe one on craigslist looks nice and clean however has 230k miles on it and that is kinda a drawback for me because i dont want to trade my 40 for something that may leave me hating life and spending alot of $ in repairs right off the bat.

I have an April of 1970 FJ40 that I love so much. I never thought I would consider letting it go, however I work 12 hour days and start at 5 in the AM. Even summer mornings can be cool at that hour. SO my 40 just sits most of the time and I bought a lil Honda to commute in. I am thinking that the 80 may be a little more comfortable to get to work and back and also take anywhere off road i could want to go. My 40 is a pig with a V8 and dose love to drink gas as well. I did just buy a hard top and hard doors for it and they are in the paint shop right now.

Id like input on what yall think my rig is worth (priceless to me) and what a good trade vehilcle would consist of. Also what you think of the 80 I am already looking at..??

I would also be interested if there are any Mudders that are near me (SO CAL) that are looking for this kind of trade.

AGAIN I am kicking this idea around at this time. I will post pics of the one I am looking at as well.

Please feel free to comment or inquire.

Thanks in advance for your time!

pics of the one im gonna look at

pics of the one on CL!!

HAs lockers, front and rear bumpers, winch, 315's fairly clean interior from what i can see.

Wondering current price to rebuild the motor. I have read a few of the rebuild posts already. newest one was in 2011 i believe. Looked to be about 3000-4000 or a lil more to rebuild this motor. ??????

Thanks again for any input on this.

^^^^^^ I think you may be right.......
But part of the push to trade is so I can use the 80 to commute about 35 miles r/t to work n back. N sell that Honda to get that early 60's truck I've wanted......

40

Curious. How much do you want for your 40? Rust issues?

Zero rust issues. It's not really for sale as of yet. If I do get there........... I think I'd want to get about 11-12k. with the hard top n doors.

So I go meet up with the owner on Saturday. He said he may be willing to put 3000$ on top of the trade &&& let me keep my wheels n tires.....if they are swappable?? Also let me keep the 500$ bestop rear seat..........

Over 300 views & only .02 so far. Input anyone??

My damn Honda blew a head gasket on weds:mad:.......... Still meet with the owner tomorrow.......my feet are definitely feeling pretty cold........(second thoughts) but I'm still gonncheck it out & drive it. If nothing else make a new friend. Here's a pic of my 40 when shes clean...

I'll reiterate, don't trade the 40.

Man up and buy a heavier coat, if need be, but keep the iconic Cruiser. You will regret and that's coming from someone that has no interest in an SBC'd Cruiser.

Roger, Copy that Mr. Delancy. Good looking out.

I have been rolling still no top. Carhart artic weather jacket with the black liner. Used to work back east in a few northern states. Ill be just fine.

Still going to go make a friend but after all the reading and researching ive done over the past week, Im gonna stick with what I have and figure the rest out later. Im right at home working on an old Chevy motor.

SOMEDAY THO I WILL OWN AN 80.....................& a 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your 4 pennies. I appreciate it.

Cheers
