I'm In my third LC and have a '13. The park assist sonar warning was staying on then the service engine light and 4 low warning starts blinking yesterday.

Well that sent before I finished... So I take it to our dealer today. Te park assist sonar deal is the result of a back up whoops from someone not me that didn't even leave a visible scare on the bumper. That will cost $450 to fix and I got dinged $125 for a diagnostic. The check engine likely from a replacement K&N filter that up set the mass air flow.
All this while under warranty. I'm projecting here but the reliability of our beloved LC may have met its match with all this new tech. And my dealer really didn't help with no loaner car a lot of wasted time and that fee.
Prob just venting at this point but I hate to have this continue.

Vent away, but Not sure many of us would agree with you. You were hit. You are running an aftermarket filter.

The us 200 series is very likely to have the strongest resale of any modern day land cruiser or SUV. Reliability and durability has only been improved with the breed.

??? Confused.

agreed, I think your LC will be just fine. Not the vehicle's fault it was hit and that the PO installed a K&N filter and it jacked with the sensors...glad they found out it was just that and not some funky Land rover style bug !! I do hate the service you get at the Toyota dealerships, when you have the flagship vehicle that retails for $70K+...the Lexus dealership service is luxe!

I call that getting your new to you truck baselined, or at least a start to it. Based on your screen name what did you experience with a Defender in terms of random things that would fail? Or had previous owners taken care of it prior to you?

Long time to reply, sorry haven't been around in awhile. I have had 2 Land Rover defender 90's. My current one is a '97. These have been great trucks for me mechanically. I think since it is so dumbed down and stayed away from English electronics, I.e. there are none, there is little to go wrong. Most of the Land Rover problems we hear about deals with complicated electronic issues. Which is precisely why I chose the LC vs the RR and would never make that mistake.

Your Defender is a beauty! I would love to have one.

Those 90's are like small airplanes.... they actually go up in value.

Supply and demand. Has little to do with the actual functional merits of car not that there is anything wrong with that.

I saw a seriously clean green 90 with some choice mods on it locally. Looked fantastic!

Appreciation in value is certainly a positive in the ownership. Mine is up a good bit over the last 5 years. The older 40's are setting a high water mark. If the defenders track those numbers, which they should, I think good ones should hit 6 figures in the next decade.
