Habit, fetish, addiction... Whatever you want to call it. It's cheaper than a Coke habit and keeps us mostly out of the bars.

I'm changing my name to Ferris Bueller.

I sold the Kimberly to a cruiser icon and managed to pick up a 1984 Troopy an hour north of the delivery address of the KK.

I also squeezed in a family trip to the Grand Canyon and got my kid back in time for his orthodontist appointment. Nothing like a couple thousand miles in 3.5 days with a :princess:, an 11 year old and a 2 year old.

Since threads without pics suck...

One of the many fill ups on the way home. Cruiserheads rock! A texas plated 100 pulled up in Tonopah and asked to take some pics. Cool guy.

cool. haven't seen too many of those.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty stoked. I'd like to replace the wheels with a factory steels off of either a 40 or 60 series and find some 3.73 diffs from an early 60 series.

Maybe a rear swingout bumper and different front bumper.

Long term may go with an H55F as well, but not in too big of a hurry to do anything else.

Keeping it mellow and slow.

Whats wrong with the front bumper? You never know when a Kangaroo is going to jump in front of you.:grinpimp:

It's even bigger than mine, between us we could start a new fad.

Looks like a nice find J!

BTW: How do YOU know how much a "coke habit" is anyway? :flipoff2:

WOW! That thing is BEAUTIFUL man!
What are some of the other stats on it?
How much you picked it up for, mileage, GAS mileage (since you made a trip) etc.

That looks like its in GREAT shape. Was it a resto?

Congrats on FURTHERING your addiction!

Seems that most hundy owners are completely oblivious as to the heritage of the truck they are driving. Its cool that he had an affinity for the early models.

Nothing is wrong with it, if your the mayor of Alabama...

Yours is shiny and lighter, so that makes up for it. Want it for Rusty? C'mon, throw it on and run the 'Con with it. At least just once.

Err...I read a book once, I mean A friend of a friend, I mean Discovery Channel?

Thanks again guys.

Stats;

1984, original never restored. You can tell when you get closer. There's some poor paint in spots like the hinges and bezel. The OZ owner put some type of incompatible paint on them and it's cracked/bubbled. Also one spot above the rear window that the paint looks to have just peeled off like those late 80's early 90's Chevy trucks.

OEM Power Steering
OEM Air Conditioning (Verified through the owners manual)
2F petrol motor
H41 Oz Spec tranny (Not to be confused with Brazilian Tranny)
Disc Front end
Full Floater rear
about 82K miles
Owners Manual

An electronics shelf that is going to take RustyDan or Ali to dumb it down for me.
(CB, power meters, radio, all kinds of crap that they didn't tell me when I got my general Ham license)

Dual batteries
33" BFG A/T's
Old Man Emu Springs
Doesn't leak a drop on the driveway, but wish it would fit in my garage.

I picked it up from "2ManyCruisers" out of Santa Fe. He's pretty active in the New Mexico cruiser club section. He has one more left and it has a pretty cool pop up roof section for camping. Think VW Westfalia style with bed up stairs. A V8 and a Warn 8274. I paid his full asking price without even trying to barter. I was second in line and responded (Within an hour or so) the day it went on the board for sale. The day I picked it up, he had received another request to end his ebay auction with a full price offer.

Honestly, I feel very fortunate to have gotten it.

Mileage wise, I drove it back the 1100 plus miles and averaged around mid 12's. My foot was in it keeping up with the hundy and I drove it faster than I would have on my own. I've removed the roof boxes and tube since I got home and think that will help with the mpg. I'd like to remove the rack to have it sand blasted because its pretty rough in some spots, but it would be replaced after the blasting. I also removed the mud flaps.

Power wise, the 2F was a pleasant surprise after driving my HJ45 with a naturally aspirated "H" engine. The 2F moves the cruiser along at 70 with no problems.

The last three years have been rough on us trying to find the right vehicles. The balance between a well taken care of used rig and one that has been beat to shiite. It doesn't help that nobody offers a new product at a price I'm willing to pay without it feeling like a total compromise. I'm feeling pretty solid about this and the hundy, so hopefully these will be here for a while. It's tiring.

There's an old Cowboy poetry writing about a son growing up and looking towards his father for approval. Than one day without noticing it, the father finds himself looking at his son for his approval. While we were driving away from 2ManyCruisers' (David's) house my 11 year old looked up at me and told me he was proud of me. At first I wanted to bust out laughing because it kind of caught me off guard, but I realized he was serious. I asked "Why are you proud of me?" He replied, "Because you bought us another safari truck" (He called the HJ45 the "Safari Truck"). The kid melts me.
