Hello out there. New Guy here. Started reading the post and thought I'd try to meet up with some other FJs at Wal Mart. Now I'm not sure where to plan to meet. I have a very capable '71 FJ40 but very little experience. If some one can help me find where you folks are planning to meet I'd like to try out the FJ. I live in Queen Creek so Wal Mart was great however I can tow to anywhere. A little help out there please. Also, is a BLM permit a most? I'm a TLCA member, does that help? As I said, "New Guy"!
Thanks, Ray

By the way. 60 to 79 on Saturday morning might not be a good idea. Renaissance Festival starts Saturday. FYI
New at FJ40s, been in Arizona since 1947.

Ray,

Blues Dawg and I are located up in Phoenix near the airport and are meeting at the QT at 48th St. and Baseline around 8:45. The others are meeting at the Wal-Mart down in Queen Creek. The two groups will join together at the trail.

Hope you can make it.

- Craig

Ray,
Sorry I didn't see this last night. The two FJCruisers (one silver, one yellow) are meeting at 10 AM at WalMart in QC in the dirt lot just north east of the new bank being built. They're planning to leave at 10 am (so you might wanna get there a little earlier) and go down Hunt Hwy to AZ Farms and then north on 79 to Cottonwood Canyon (~ mile marker 145).

HTH,
Sean

Well, another excuse for being late...

hopefully the renaissance begins after 09:30...;)

Great day! Thanks to everyone who made it out. I hit hwy 79 right at 5pm. What time did you guys hit pavement after going through Box?

It was very nice meeting everyone. Hope we can get together again sometime.

I don't think we'll have much in the way of pics....I think Stacey only took the camera out down in Middle Woodpecker when I was playing around on the old ARCA comp obstacle.

Hope everyone had as good a time as we did. Thanks for letting us tag along. :)

Sean

Only pic we got that was any good:

Yup. It's a good one.

Thanks Sean for getting the whole thing started. Had a great time and met lots of nice folks, (Though none showed up at Norton's for that beer I offered) -http://images.ih8mud.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif Maybe next time. Had a couple of drinks and went to the Cafe for hot wings. Now home with a very large glass of water. See you guys Friday night.
Ray

Good to meet you too Ray.

I wonder what it is about wheeling and hot wings afterwards that just goes together? I almost always have a craving for them after a day of wheeling.

You did an awesome job of driving that 40 of yours. I hope someone got some good pics of you coming down that optional hill descent (at the windmill). I'll admit, you had me worried there for a minute, but you kept your cool and just drove it out. Great job! :)

Take care,
Sean

I (shamefacedely) took no photos today. But, it was a good trail day, good mix. Thanks, Sean, for intiaiting. What started as 3 vehicles, turned into 3-FJC's, 1-40, 1-80, 1-Taco, 1-4Runner, 1-Rubi (spelled heep), and 1-sick buggy. Good times had by all.

And, Yes, Whipp wheels! He even proof tested those new Slee Sliders!

Carl

Ya, I helped Whipp with that a little (unfortunately).....glad he had them on there though.....that's what they're for. Does he have any lift at all or is that stock height with stock size tires?

Glad you could make it. Nice to finally wheel w/some more people from this site.

Your FJC works well (well, that and the driver is a big part of it). Hopefully we can get together again and run something that will be a little more challenging for ya. ;) Might have to cut down on the size of the group though.

There are some pics up on the other site (Jessa's going to load more today at some point).....the link to the thread is on page one of this one.

Take care,
Sean

9 trucks? That IS a small-sized turnout for this group. :D

Sounds like much more fun than paperwork, wish I could have made it.:crybaby:

Well, it was almost like you were there;) . First Whipp went to the wrong meeting place - B-way/48th instead of B-line/48th. Then, I led the 3 last trux down the trail to coke ovens when we were going to Martinez. So, at least we kept up the tradition of wrong turns:grinpimp: .

And you would have enjoyed shades of Blazer Bash - on our way out, we encountered 2 K5's and a chevy pickup blocking the trail. One K5 had his hood up and there were about 5 people analyzing the situation. They moved so we could get thru, and wwhen Josh asked if they needed anything the response was "beer".

Oh, and no Coati Mundi this time, but we saw tres borregos in the box!

Really? I'm used to going with as little as 1 other vehicle but typically 4-5. Seemed big to me. Guess it's all relative. ;)

I definitely wouldn't want to bring more similarly equipped on a harder trail than yesterday....too long a day.

Typical - the posts had 3 or 4 showing up. What was really unusual was that I was on time! It felt kinda weird...
