I have been doing lots of searching and have come up with a couple questions--maybe part of this could be added to the faq?

I am going to run 315/75R16--I would like to see at least 25k miles--(2 years). I will wheel it pretty hard 25x per year in sand/river pebbels, boulders, rivers, mountain rock. I used to run revos and really liked them but they only go up to a 33. A gurantee is of no importance becuase they are void in Mexico. It is hot here and I know heat is a downer on tread life......Here are the tires I am checking out:

Yokohama Geolander A/T+ II $140(these have great reviews)
Nitto Terra Grappler A/T--$183(Christo recomends these)
BFG A/T TA KO--$179 on sale
BFG Mud Terrain T/A--$205
Good Year Wrangler M/T $199
Dunlop Radial Mud Rover $136

After reading this do you guys have a favorite to recomend? I realize I'm comparing apples vs. oranges Road noise is of no concern and if I wanted a smooth ride I would have got a pilot :D I am guessing I should probably get a 5th tire as well.....

Yes,

All 6 are quality tyres. My preference would be the GY MT/R (better grip) or the BFG MT (better wear.)

Tires

Most you have listed I have tried or am running-on my wifes 80 she runs the BFG-AT, quiet, slightly aggressive, least expensive.

2nd choice-Goodyear MTR

* always remeber tires are like girlfriends, each persons has there favorite.....

Aren't you mostly wheeling in muddy conditions? I've never used the Nittos but they really intrigue me, especially the Mud Grappler but it isn't available in the size you want yet. I'm running BFG MTs, I'd much rather be running MTRs though. I like BFG ATs and I've run many sets of them (17, I think) but I wouldn't buy those for muddy conditions as they pack. I like them but I live in a desert and in the winter they take chains real easy.

If you're going to be in mud sometimes then why consider all terrains including the mt/r? Mud = need fo traction.

How about some bias ply swampers or michelins?

btw, when are these krawler boys going to chime in on how they are in the mud or don't ya'll wheel yer junk ever? :slap:

I put 305 Nittos on mine and I really like them. Quiet and great traction. Did great at the beach when on the sand. Haven't had in the mud, but seem aggressive enough. Talked to Cristo about them and he did like them.

Like said elsewhere, all that you are looking at are good tires. I ended up geting the Nittos as much for the tread pattern as anything.

Good luck!

I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers in 295/75R-16. Great on the highway and good traction in rock and sand, not much mud here it's a desert thing.

I have 35-inch AT's on my 100 and 35-inch MT's on my 80. BFG rates the tires in mud only 1 click apart. AT's get an 8 and MT's a 9 (on a 1-10 scale). You think there's that much a difference? (Not sure....just aksing. Not that much mud in AZ.)

...not really a 315 but...

a pretty good tire ;)

Junk--

To clear things up I don't see enough mud here to make it worthy for part of the criteria on choosing a tire. No soup or mud holes like you find in the north.....it is full of gravel here. Lots of loose dirt and wet sand. I just want something with great traction and the amount of wear is a plus. We crawl over a ton of rocks so a strong side wall would be good. I know the Goodyear max traction is a great tire--I was just wondering if any of the others that will be $240 less are good.....

I should have quoted you for the mud reference then since it's now gone :flipoff2:

If you're rock crawling, then I say go swamper :D bias ply TSL, IROK or SX.

To stir the pot a bit--I could run true 33's--I see two that I really like....

285 Bridgestone Revo d load rating--$760 for 5
285/75 Firestone M/T--$750 for 5

Junk--what mud :flipoff2:
