If I buy new ones, it'll probably be Firestone M/T (as a second set, not DD). I think they are a bit cheaper, higher rated, and better wear than the MT/Rs.
If you are seeing mostly gravel and rocky roads and no mud or serious rock crawling, and this would be your DD tires also, I would think you might be better off with an AT?
For a DD in those conditions, it seems like the BFG AT might be a top choice?
Being in Mexico, I would pay particular attention to puncture resistance though and the BFG may not shine there apparently.

Have you considered the Toyo Open Country M/T? They're even more expensive than the MTRs, but everything I've heard/read about them has been great.

So...everything you'd get with the MTR, but for more $$$?

Uhhhh...okay...sure

I've had the 315 BFG A/T on rig now for few months and love it. You do feel a slight change in power and change in gas milage for sure. But I would have to say they are good tires all around. Very quite! Not loud as I thought it would be.

On, the other hand the Nitto's look great too and sound like good quality. I think if I were to switch out tires I would go next time w/ Nitto's.

I was just throwing it out there, and although I don't remember in what aspects, I've heard they are better than the MTRs in some ways.

Hey, somebody's gotta buy some so the price comes down :flipoff2:

Heh...no worries. Just givin' ya some grief. :D
I've been pretty darned pleased with the MTRs. Seems either them or the Swampers are what most go with...not all...most. The Firestones seem interesting, but they don't make them in 315s.

I've read many times that people mention issues with mileage after switching to larger tires, but I've noticed an interesting change. My in-town mileage dropped about 1/2 mpg, but my highway mileage increased by 1 to 1.5 mpg since going to 315s (this is all based on GPS mileage and calculation).

No, no, Professional Boytoy Riding. Get it right!

Seldom can I say this, but I wager I've wheeled more lately than you have. :)

Nice creation there. Been there, never said that.

You guys helped me decide--Thanks for all of the help and pm's. I'm going with the Good Year Wrangler M/T

I am going to run the OME heavy consisting of N73/N74E, 850/863, steering damper, caster kit along with the OME top out spacers. Talking with Christo and other fine members of this board the thought is I can run 315's--I may have to do a little fender trim in the back--we shall see. Any thoughts on the old topic of 305 vs. 315's?

My caster will not be dead on but the furthest from home I will ever travel is about 300 miles--My wife has the road trip vehicle. I am going to wheel it pretty hard.....

SR. GRINGO, with this combination including the OME top out spacers/trim packers, how much lift can you gain from this set up? I would like to install the same set up to run at least 295/75/16 GY MTRs or 305/75/16 Nitto Grappler. I read from Christo's site that you need to have a bull bar/winch combo up front and a rear bumper with tire carrier to run the heavy duty OME other wise the ride will be stiff. Is this right? Thanks. :D

>> Any thoughts on the old topic of 305 vs. 315's? <<

No new thoughts, just to re-hash that you understand regearing is STRONGLY advised with 35's. Most recommend 4.88's though 4.56 will get you back to stock gearing.

Noel,

If Christo says the ride will be stiff then you'd be advised to listen to him first, especially since Sr Gringo hasn't installed a lift on an 80 series and Christo has installed and sold this combo for over 3 years.

Sr. Gingo: I have the same springs though I have the L-series long travel shocks. You say you plan to wheel this sucker then you'll regret not having the L-series shocks. The setup on my 80 measures compared to stock right on 4-inches lift. No steering problems whatsoever. I have 15mm front and 20mm rear packers on the springs. They setup is super. The 35's fit super. Don't need gearing to off-road though 4.88's would help going down the hills. 80: http://www.expeditionswest.com/vehicles/adventurepartners/index.html
