Fav campsites or lakes in Lakes Basin area (CA)

We're headed up to camp and wheel in the Lakes Basin area, near Sierra City, CA. Many wonderful lakes up there (Sardine Lake, Gold lake, etc). I think about 40 lakes in a 20 mile radius.

Anyone have any favorite lakes to visit or campsites to use? I like 4wd accessible ones away from the crowds. We're going to do the Sierra Buttes 4wd route (5 rating) to the base of the Buttes lookout. Any other fav trails in that area? The Norcal backcountry adventures book has a few suggestions.

I camp at the Gold lake 4x4 camp ground 2-3 times a year. Every time I'm up there I make sure to do the Snake Lake/Little Deer Lake trail (the two toughest ones). Gold Valley trail, deer lake trail, Butcher Ranch trail are all nice also. There is a trail that heads up the mountian from the Gold Lake 4x4 camp that has great views of the lake and surounding area.
