Just an FYI...
Everyone here who has built or IS building pretty much ANYTHING for their rigs CUSTOM will require some atypical parts and nuts and bolts...
There is a Fastenal shop right down Double R blvd. on the S. end of reno that I was VERY impressed with. That carried a TON of various nuts and bolts, specialized drill bits, shaft collars and numerous other things.
Historically, I would have to go to ACE hardware for these items, but Ill be checking here from now on. I even got my DE-STA-CO latch.

Home | Fastenal

Is their web site and has the things you can get/ order.

Just an FYI especially for you S. town guys.
Its kinda like the RE fasteners, but their inventory is on the shelves and you dont have to ASK the counter person, wait, see if its right etc. that just annoys the HELL out of me going there.

Sweet... I normally deal with the home depot up in NW reno, and I hate that place.

I think there's a fastenal up off parr, but I always thought that place was for contractors and companies, not public.

X2 on R&E, I don't need someone to hold my hand when buying hardware!

Fastenal so far has been pretty helpful.

Also don't forget Western Industrial Parts over on Louie. I've had really good luck finding odd hardware like speednuts and rivets that match the factory stuff there.

Where is that at?
Is that S reno?

Yeah...there is a home depot right by my house, and im CONSTANTLY disappointed by their selection of nuts and bolts.
However, I absolutely LOOOOOVE ACE hardware. However, its just a PITA cuz its SOOOOO FAR to get to.
Its either in Sparks, or Down town. Both are a time commitment from S. Reno.
Wish they wouldnt have closed the one down here.

If John is there he's very helpful: Ditto for the other guys. But if the more full-time/experienced guys are gone the couple kids that hold down the fort are, well, clueless. Based on the couple times I've needed something and stopped in there and John wasn't there they couldn't have found their own shoes .

When I fabbed up my Sanden OBA system I needed a special length (long) 14mm fine thread for the camshaft. And Fastenal was able to get them for me from another store whereas MMC and R&E were a no go.

I stopped by there today looking for PlastiDip...seems like something they should carry...but nope. But John informed me Home Depot typically has it...and sure enough they did!

Yeah...John was the guy that I had talked to.
There was some part timer kid around there, and I see what you mean.
What did you use the plastidip for? Do you like that stuff? How does it work/ hold up?
Im looking for a set of tail gate latches and Fastenal there had a set that I COULD use, but they had a BIG FLAMING RED handle on it. That is okay for the swingout, but...Id like to have the tail gate latch be somewhat...stock'ISH looking. Then I thought about that plastidip stuff to change the color and coat it a bit.
Fastenal also had this stuff called "lab metal"....Ill be trying that out FOR SURE. It kinda like JB weld, but putty in a can. Ill be using that for some of the sheet metal work that I had done in lieu of bondo or MORE painstaking welding like on the floor pan that I made and the trans tunnel etc.

The welded tab apart of the hand brake lever on my KK failed. So I built a better mousetrap rather than re-welding it back together; so I decided, more experiment than anything, to try Plasti-Dip...first time user here.

A couple 100-Series guys painted those red handles black and seemed to work just fine. They now have special paint for plastic...I noticed it at Carter's yesterday. I'd give that a try first. In fact one of them didn't like the zinc color of the metal portion and painted it black...

And you also know about Alegis Corp, on Corsair Drive, right? Their inventory compliments MMC for the most part. But I do find things there I can't easily find, especially in single units, other places. Thanks Jereme for that turn-on!

Plasti Dip is awesome! Ive used it on a bunch of stuff, and ive had good results. I used it on my home made bow press, and its held up to the forces of the bow and kept the limbs from getting damaged by the press.

It also works great to keep high lift mounts quite and stable.

Ive been to Fastenal on Parr a few times. The manager is Matt and he's a super great guy and very helpful. He's also a huge fly fisher which makes for an even better visit when he whips out the most recent pics.

Ditto at the Fastenal on Parr. Only been a couple times, but they were very friendly. Not a lot of what I was looking for, but very accommodating.

Speaking of Plasti-Dip, picked some up at the Depot and tried it on my cracked and broken defroster tube ends...may just work. Cost of a new hose is up there with the price of gold right now.

Keep us posted. It already looks better than duct tape!

Who is MMC and where do they live. Make it sound great so I don't feel so dumb when you tell me!:)

I hate to even imagine how much money's been transferred from me to them over the past 4-5 years . But their shipping & handling rates are more than fair and significantly less than others I've used. Plus they just carry an incredibly wide and deep inventory unlike any other single source I've found.

This is true about MMC! It mind blowing the stuff that they carry.
Somethings though its nice to see if you could find locally so you could actually SEE it.
The De sta co latch that would actually work BEST for my swing out would be one of the 90 deg. clamps, but they dont make them in a LOCKING clamp.

BTW, this has turned out to be a great pooling of local resources here, so if you have anything else post it up.

Keith,
Please do post up on how the platidip holds up on that hose. I have a similar issue with mine.
I MAY be going with an aftermarket heater in lieu of the stock one to free up its fire wall location. Gotta see what turn up.

Good Lord, what a selection of everything. Now i have even less time to do useful things.:)
Mike
No kidding, I open their catalog looking for some 0-80 screws to repair a fixture and the next thing you know I'm looking a indexed knobs and brass rod stock. I've been getting stuff from them to build assembly and test fixtures for 20 years.

However, the DID NOT have a 23mmx 1.5mm tap!:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:
Im HATING the front end assembly right now!:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:
