Just when I thought there wasn't anything else to know about a Land cruiser 100...

I pulled my driver's side front seat out of my 2000 LC to re-cover it. Inset in carpet under the seat it is a circular hole, with what appears to be a squirrel-cage type blower fan under it. My HVAC controls don't have any effect on it (Not sure if that is because it is dead or I'm just not poking buttons right). I've googled, searched here, and poured over parts diagrams, but no luck. I can post a pic later if needed, but figured someone here knows what it is, and can save me from my OCD misery trying to find out. :-)

Thanks!

That's the rear heater.

Set the rear heater control (located above the head rest on 2nd row driver side seat) to 85 and turn on the fan. It is best to clean that heater area as when I did it, I think I found about $2-3 worth of coins and solidified soda!

Rear heat? Well, that explains it... In Florida, it's what we refer to as "useless crap".

If you have kids, I call it the Dad revenge fan. If they jack up the rear thermostat to max 85 during the summer it is a sauna under the driver seat.

How hard was it to remove the seat? Do you have photos?

Remove the plastic covers at the front and back of the rails, they snap off. 14mm socket, remove the 4 bolts. One connector underneath, done.

My pass seat used 14mm fasteners?

Did you disconnect the battery before disconnecting the seat? I thought I heard of someone having some difficulty after pulling seats?
The only things electrical in the 2000 seat is the heaters, the power motors, and the seatbelt sensor. There isn't going to be any problem with just unplugging it.

Here is a pic of the unit. With the carpet removed you can see everything,It has its own heater core in there.

Bumping this old thread. That fan under the driver seat on my 06 Lx is still running but I feel it’s about to go out because it’s making unusual noise when I turn on the switch up front for the rear AC fan. I’m looking for the part number of that blower fan. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.

FYI, this fan has nothing to do with the rear AC. Rear heater and rear AC are two completely separate units.

Yes I understand thanks for that, but when that fan under the driver seat starts to spin, it’s making an abnormal sound/noise. It still works but that noise is just annoying. The front and rear AC both cooling and heating still works perfect.

Could it be just some debris fallen (or sucked) into the fan? A leaf or piece of plastic wrapping?

Reasonable to consider that, although if it is operating on auto and coming on every time the car runs in heating season it is possible the bearings are shot.
Not sure what most folks do, but I rarely have rear seat occupants and I do not have my rear controls set to “Auto”, preferring to use the front panel “Rear” control to toggle the rear climate on as needed, which -for me- it almost never is.

I really hope so. Worst case scenario unlike the front blower fan under the dash, this one is not a sub-assembly, the electric motor can be removed from fan propeller and I hope it’s just the latter. From the diagram, if the motor is the culprit, I think I may need to remove the two coolant fittings to access the electrical motor underneath the plastic shroud.
