Our annual family day run, which had evolved into the River Shiver, and now it seems back to a one day deal.

There were five trucks that made the trek out to Waiporous. Me in my 45, Curt in his HJ60, Peter in his JDM BJ7X and Bruce and Craig in their HDT81s. The two 81s were sporting the wives and kids, which is always nice to see.

Our plan was to get back to the Falls for a fire and wienny roast. There was about 18" of snow with the open sunny spots sometimes bare from melting. The trails were good hard pack, and off trail was weak, rotten and offering little traction or support.

We stopped at 4 Corners to regroup and whatever.

Bruce does a wide u-turn off the trail and gets our first stuck. The rest of us stood around and watched as Curt made short work of the recovery with the extra long strap.

The trail to the falls follows the river and was fairly uneventful. Even the river crossings were easy with 6 to 12" ice shelves to climb out over, until we got to the last mile or so. A long and steep south facing hill was, as usual, covered with ice.

Curt and I both put chains on the rear tires and just crawled up no problem.

The others used speed and power to make it up.

The last little hill before the falls had a couple of feet of snow drifted at the bottom.

My skinny little tires would not make it through and my rear chains just dug down until I was hung up.

With help from Coastal I managed to winch up the now icy and rutted slope.

Bruce couldn't make it either and decided to go to the alternate trail to get stuck. Again Coastal got the winch hooked up and Bruce pulled himself up.

looks like a big 60 series in the first pic, who's rig is that?

Kurt, in his HJ60, Sprung over on brand spankng new 36" TSL's.

Looks like a great run. Nice to see a group of cruisers out.

The way back out proved to be a little more challenging.

Bruce got stuck at the falls. He was the last to load up his kids and got stuck where he was parked. We had already left so he winched himself out.

At the first up-hill he got stuck and when we finally got back to help him it turned out one of his front 35s was flat. We changed that out with his 32 inch spare but he still needed a tug to get up it.

Then an ice shelf at one of the river crossings got him again, and it seemed as though something was wrong with his drive train. Perhaps a broken drive flange.

But after that we made it back to the trail head with no further problems.
