I have an '85 FJ60, that came from the PO with a Fairey OD. The truck has been rolled, and although I was able to restore it enough for driving around town, I'm getting ready to retire it and shop for another one. I have two questions: 1)When I remove the OD, the old truck will still be operable, so, is there a plate or something to replace where the OD is, to restore the truck to regular 4 speed? 2) I would like to rebuild the OD while I shop for another FJ60. It's working perfectly, but since it will be out, I'm thinking of checking it out and replacing anything that needs it. Question is, who can do that for me? Any of you guys, or someone you know? Can a regular transmission shop handle this? I know nothing about transmissions, except how to shift!

Thanks.

Those OD's are cool, however there are NO parts made for them. if you remove the OD the truck will not operate as the OD is now the back 1/2 of the t-case. You may be able to sell it to some who has one for spare parts, but you will need to find a new t-case and gear set.

P.S. I will give you $50 for it if you want to get rid of it.

Thanks for the reply, and the offer, but the reason I want to recondition it is to put it on my next FJ60.

correct me if i am wrong ....but the FO is conected to the rear of the TC ...its not the whole TC...the TC is able to be removed by disconecting the TC from the trans and removing the gear and spacer from inside and putting back the longer spacer (from another TC) and putting the factory tin cup plate back on (from donor TC)....or is the fj60 case different from an fj40?

it is a pita to do

Johnny that's how it is with the one piece transfer cases not the split cases. The whole back piece is part of the overdrive. Might just set the transmission/transfer/case/overdrive and set it to the side and just install in your nest 60 if it's running okay.

Sorry, this solution is too simple and elegant.

We need other ideas to make it complicated and difficult. And expensive!;)
