Is there any way to check this before failure? I occasionally have clunk when accelerating from a stop and your post has me worried now.

I think just visually checking and getting your hand on it to see if there is any play. Or if you have a trusted mechanic just have him check. Wished i caught sooner there was some sensor that got wrecked when mine fell off making this a much bigger bill for repairIs there any way to check this before failure? I noticed a clunk when accelerating more aggressively from a stop only. Turns out its the drivers side motor mount. It was like that for about a year and took about that long to really start digging into it to figure out what it was. No harm to the vehicle if you grandma it, but if you accelerate hard and/or off-road hard, it can create issues, ie I broke the plastic engine cover mount and also disconnected the windshield washer fluid reservoir somewhere. Reading all the posts about this, especially Kurt's on their Baja truck, I likely broke the mount in Baja last year off-roading at higher speeds on some tracks down there. I think the mounts are less likely to go on slower rock crawling / moderate trail conditions. Likely the high speed stuff caused it.Is there any way to check this before failure? At stop/start from zero, the motor encounters the most rotational torque of any circumstance. Watch a Semi truck leave from a stop and the whole truck rotates. Hammering on it from a rolling stop doesn't have that pent up torque you get from a stop. Have someone stand on the brakes and hit the gas in drive while you watch the motor with the hood open and see if you can replicate it while watching for engine movement. Thanks Kurt. Yeah I read that. It looked like your mount was loose but not necessarily allowing the engine to lift upward... more lateral movement in this case?
It seems odd to me if it's a bad motor mount that my noise only happens at stop/start. If I'm moving along and smash the accelerator it doesn't clank. But I'm not a mechanic and don't really know how a bad mount will necessarily present itself.
did you have the transmission software update done? I think there's a TSB number somewhere in the 'mud.I still have a clunk in the 1-2 or 2-1 shift, which is either some driveline slop (I suspect) or the transmission is refusing to disengage its gear. Motor mounts are good, I had a dealer check and did a brake stand as well and the engine doesn't move.
Nope. I don’t think there’s one for the 6 speed. The clunk has gotten worse over time so I’m fairly sure something is worn. It’s almost like the transmission holds the gear for a second and then inclines when making that shift. I don’t notice it in 2-3 or 3-2 but it might be there just less pronounced due to a lot less torquedid you have the transmission software update done? Just wanted to show some solidarity, as my 2013 LC does the same. It's not a violent jolt shifting 1-2/2-1, but noticeable compared to all the other gears. I know my lower control arm bushings are shot and are probably contributing somewhat, but there's got to be a bigger issue at play. The driveline components (U-joint, splines, etc.) were recently greased in hopes of resolution, but no dice. I've been thinking motor/transmission mounts may be a contributing factor. I'll report back if I find anything in the mount department (or PM you if I find some other solution).I still have a clunk in the 1-2 or 2-1 shift, which is either some driveline slop (I suspect) or the transmission is refusing to disengage its gear. I don’t think mine are motor mounts since it’s only obvious mainly in the downshifts. And there’s no clunking from it which I’d expect with broken motor mounts. But there is some slop somewhere in the driveline that occasionally is apparent. Mine is probably more likely some slop in the driveshaft or something similar, but I’m not sure how to track that downJust wanted to show some solidarity, as my 2013 LC does the same.
