My bone stock 94 failed CA smog but not because of the way it was running. It failed the EGR function test.
The smog technician suggested the small metal tube that runs into the back side of the intake was clogged. It was. But that didn't solve the problem.
What did solve the problem was removal of the throttle body and clean out of the carbon build up in the passages there. Completely clogged. And replacement of the EGR valve too. The valve was functioning it just wouldn't seal completely at idle.
Now my LC idles beautifully. She has 180k Miles and I can't believe the improvement. Much like my 97 SC400. Passed smog too!
