Several threads have pics of LCs in the Middle East with what look like factory or OEM swing out tire carriers to hang the spare against the rear hatch.

Is that something anyone is bringing into the US or perhaps fabbing here?

I'd guess if it's an OEM option, there is reinforcement in the body to handle it. So, fabbing wouldn't be impossible.

Most folks here who want/have rear tire carriers get them as part of a rear bumper they added for other reasons.

If I wanted the jumbo second fuel tank Ward Harris is talking about without the steel bumper, this would be one way to do it.

With the rear tail gate and hatch, a good $2500 delivered in under a week. I think the hatch could easily be skipped, just add a reinforcement and two holes. So maybe $1800. The carrier alone is about $650 delivered.

Have you considered Kaymar's rear tire carrier(s) that can be used with or without their rear bar? From what I'm tracking, Kaymar no longer has an US distributor, but I'm sure with some finesse (and cash) one could get a tire carrier shipped to the States.

I think this would be a course of action worth considering.

From the thread with photos in TeCKis300's post, it looks like the OEM swing out tire carrier uses at least a different rear bumper and lower hatch. Maybe you could skip the lower hatch. Its definitely not a dealer installed option, it would be a factory only option. So, Bjowett and TonyP are right, Slee/ARB/TJM... would be cheaper.

Yonah's Kaymar solution looks like a trailer hitch mount, which has potential. However, their website says only pre-2015 AND no parking sensors. So, an actual Kaymar carrier isn't an option for me since my truck is post 2015 and has the sensors, and fabbing one might not work if there is a sensor problem.

It seems like I read a thread where someone had a trailer hitch mounted carrier built. Might have been a build thread from someone in the middle east. Anyhow, that seems like the most cost effective solution if I decide to go with the jumbo Long Ranger aux tank.

Thank you all for your thoughts!

I’ve seen one in person - they are really well built and don’t wobble. But I really don’t like how far out the tire is from the rear of the truck. The gap is huge. I wish they angle the carrier towards the truck

It looks a little better with the Jerry can option - but the cost is significantly higher.

Yeah @indycole has one. Looked very sturdy. It scraped a bit in Moab but nothing extremely terrible from what I remember. Not sure if he's getting a steel bumper so maybe it'll be up for sale soon?

The HitchGate appears to be a good solution, albeit a bit generic. I'm sure a local fabricator could easily make something similar to a HitchGate, but design it around the rear of the 200 - i.e. tuck it as close as possible to the rear bumper and add any other doo-dads you want. I would personally use some round stock for an OEM-like appearance, but that's me.

@NMNORSSE - apologies, I didn't realize you had a newer model 200.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the Wilco carrier. There'd need to be a number of design changes to bring it closer to the rear bumper and it only looks silly from the side. I won't have much use for mine after @reevesci works his magic in March.
