Just wanted to share with fellow 80's owners.

I saw a post on lighting and thought others might want to know that Hella switch part # 96517 is a factory Toyota switch. This switch will fit your dash under your climate control and also fit in the center consol where your coin holders are. This is a 12V 24A switch with a LED.

See below.

Looks like the generic Camry switch. How much $$ ?

Nice. I have a pair of the overseas market switches in the curved switch blanks to the upper left of the steering wheel, but in the spot you show I'm powering my rear flood and rear fogs with an illuminated rocker I made fit by melting a hole in the switch blanks. Yours looks very clean - $$?

I got the switches for around 21 bucks for 3 switches, but that was dealer cost. Not sure what they retail for. They can be found in the Hella Catalog so I would assume any retailer who can order Hella stuff could get them. They are super nice and seem to be quality switches, I had to replace some marine switches with these and have been very happy thus far. They are exact fit, no trimming needed, just pop out the old blank and in with the switch. I was very surprised to see them in Toyota bags when I picked them up. I guess hella makes them for Toyota, so I would assume you could then get at a dealership if you wanted to go that route...

Ammo,

That's the generic switch any Toyota dealer can get. Last time I bought one from C-Dan it was around $8 but check with him for current pricing.

(From the SOR archives)
The switch has 3 connectors on the rear. T2, T3, and T4. You can see the numbers if you look carefully. T4 goes to ground for the switch LED. T2 is +12V in and T3 is switched +12V when the switch is on. For "On" (i.e, switch closed) press the amber LED side of the switch.

This is elementary for some but I had to use the multimeter to figure out how the switch worked. No instructions come with it since it is supposed to replace a Camry factory switch.

Use some spade connectors to build yourself a pig tail for hooking up whatever lights you're planning to use.

I also bought a couple of these switchs from CDan for about $9 each. Does anyone know what vehicles these switchs fit so that I can source some connectors from the salvage yard?

97 you are kidding me right?

I got mine a few years ago for like $6/each. You're going to go to a junk yard, use gas to get there, spend time there etc to save $2 on a $6 item? We know you boys in Plano ain't exactly the smurtest bunch out there, but dude, like {edit}

I think he wants to get the harness that goes with the switch from the junk yard, not the switch itself

If anyone can show a picture of the back of the switch we may be able to find the connector part # in the wiring harness repair manual

97,

The back of the switch is just a 3 prong, nothing too special here, you can use any crimp style connector that will give you a snug fit on the prong. At the time the name of those connectors escapes me.... Help me out here; they have blue insulation and a flat rolled edges to slip over the prong....

Raven,

Here is a picture of the back of the switch. Both switches have the light side on top.

PS - Junk, you might want to switch to decaf :)

Ammo,
I believe -B- mentioned those are spade connectors.

Hi Ammo,

Thanks for the info. I realize that I can make my own connectors using the crimp-style female spade connectors. I was investigating a more OEM-styled connector to finish off the fog light wiring.

If these have been out there why are people paying $40 for the Toyota OEM switch??? Can this be plugged into Slees aux wiring harness?

Dan,
The Toyota OEM fog switch designed specifically for the 80 series is a little better than this switch from what I can tell in the pics on Christo's site. This is a toggle style; the one on Christo's site is a push-push style like the other dash switches on the 95-97s. I'm pretty sure this switch is not a direct plug into the Slee harness but building a pig tail is very easy.

The above fog light switch has an amber LED; the Slee/Toyota/80 switch has a green bulb. I'm not sure if the above can be wired to the dash lighting so that it dims with the rheostat. Mine is wired to turn on the amber LED when the switch is on. The LED is either on or off; no dimming.

The above switch has a slightly different texture on the black plastic trim.

Thanks boewolf, so Slees harness is a direct plug and play set up if you use the factory switch?

hmm that does not look like it gets a connector, I'll take a look in the manual when I get home tonight

Looked through both the 6pin and 3pin female non-water-proof, nothing with that configuration, looks like it is made for standard spade terminals, no connector block, that switch must be designed for dealer installations
