Hey guys,

I posted a similar thread in the 40 section, but I have a feeling that this is the place for knowledge of old engines.

I have a F135 (siamese port) cylinder head at the machine shop. The machinist needed help finding a freeze plug, since his vendors did not have one that fit the dimensions he needed. I ordered the plug from SOR.

Here's the thing: the machinist pulled a disc-type plug out. SOR sent me a cup-type plug. Will this be the appropriate part to use?

While I would prefer to use original parts, freeze plugs are not a big issue to me as long as they work correctly. If the cup type plug will work, I am fine using it. However, if the water passages in the head are not compatible with a cup-type plug, I am in a pickle. What say the experts?

I thought Toys. were all cup. MIke

I just looked at the block (not refreshed yet). It has a few plugs in it that are convex disks. Since I plan on rebuilding the bottom end, I ordered the full freeze plug kit from SOR which includes 5 disk-type plugs for the block (look like zinc-coated steel), but a cup type for the back of the head. It is the one for the head that I am confused about.

I don't know the complete history of the engine. I can't guarantee the originality of the plug that the machinist removed, but he says it was disk.

I ordered part# 052-100A (all freeze plugs in a kit) and the part I am concerned with is 052-01A (back of the head) for reference.

Anybody want to walk out to their Cruiser and check this out for me?

Does this help.

I am sure that is a disc and not a dish freeze plug, as the picture shows. I wouldn't get anything but OEM, either. I seem to recall that the Kit doesn't have enough discs that size for the F135. They provide 3 and you need 4. You have to get an extra, and you might want to get a few more in case they leak and you have to redo them.

Do a search with my handle for more on that.

Thanks again, guys. The disk was the right one. I picked up the full-engine freeze plug kit from SOR and my machinist showed me his install routine for that type of plug. I will have to find another plug or two, since the SOR kit supplied a cup-type plug for the cylinder head.

Is there a part number for the OEM plug?
