Hey guys, I've got a 1999 LX470 with about 190,000 miles on it, that, aside from this one problem, is pretty much trouble free.

Anyways, starting at about 50-55 MPH the car starts getting a progressively worse and worse shaking until it becomes practically unbearable. I figure it must be something with the suspension, as the front looks to be riding really low and there aren't any OBD faults/check engine light.

Any idea what this could be? I've searched around the internet and haven't found much. If you need pictures let me know.

Thanks a lot

Check your tires. I once rode in a full size van that was shaking so badly the middle of the headliner was moving up and down a good 3 inches. The driver described it as a massage that never stopped. It was bad. One if the rear tires was bad and has a huge bulge in it

Yeah I was initially hoping that was the case, a simple fix like that, but I got the tires balanced, and if anything was weird I think those guys would have figured it out or at least said something.

Check you drive shaft. Also check all bushings that secure any driveline components. Have a friend drive next you you on the highway and see if he spots the wheel hopping or the axle. If its unbearable it should be relatively obvious from the outside.

How long has this been going on? Any chance there is snow/mud caked on a wheel? If not, did you try rotating the tires after they were rebalanced? If that doesn't work I would definitely check the control arms or any other component for play.

Since it is progressive I'd suspect the parking brake is lightly grabbing if nothing else above. Causes a crazy progressive shake of the whole car, it's incredible.
