Other than gas mileage, is their any negative running the truck in this mode all of the time. Does anyone know what the mileage difference is?

Yukon, not sure there's an exact answer to the question of milage. Pretty certain this doesn't destroy any parts on the truck, although, you could argue that there's more wear-n-tear on parts.

The PWR button changes the programming for shift points. I know Lexus uses this button on most of their cars and I have the button always "on" for both my cars. For example when accelerating with the PWR button active, the programming moves the upshifts up 500 RPM giving the car more power. IIRC, downshifting with the PWR button will hold <1000 RPMs longer than normal.

Mine is always on and has been since I bought the truck at 100k miles. I prefer the higher shift points.

Me too, thanks for the info.

What's your driving style and what kind of milage are you getting with it on all the time?

I cruise. Litterally. 65-ish on the hwy.

Milage: when I'm out of gas I fill up. No point in watching the milage as I figure the truck gets as much as it can driven reasonably with my right foot.

We all knew going in to the purchase that the FJ100 was not a model of efficiency.

My driving style. I take off quickly (for the 100) from stop lights. I get 12 around town with 285s, a 2 inch lift and Bump It sliders (they are 90 lbs each). I get 14 to 15 on the highway. I am not the fastest on the highway but I am pretty close. ;)

the only argument against this is that it (poor/change in mileage) gives an indication of something wrong that might not be a drivability problem. but I suppose if your typical range is 310 and all of the sudden you're filling at 250 then you'd get the same inkling without the numerical data.

Power is jammed on in mine, I am pedal to the metal in mine and avg. 8 city and 12-15 highway. It is what it is...

It just changes the shift points so you don't have to mash the pedal to the floor to get or hold a lower gear. Living in the foothills of the Rockies, I keep mine on so when I'm going uphill it holds a lower gear at a higher RPM rather than shifting into too high of a gear, bogging down and then having to kick down and accelerate back up to speed. As soon as I'm out on the flats I usually turn it off, but it really doesn't make much of a difference on the flats unless I'm driving aggressively.

I've never turn mine on and get 12-13 town and 15-16 on highway at 75+mph. I'm going to Vegas this weekend (500miles each way). Ill do an experiment and leave it off on the way there and on on the way back. I assume mileage differences, if any would come more from cit than highway driving, but it's worth a shot.

wait...what? Why are so many 100 series guys coming to vegas?

Btw, fuel mileage experiment wont work...there's more downhill coming this way and more uphill going back.

2000UZJ - Pedal to the metal all the time. That is me as well, you just said it better. I still get 11 to 12 around town. Did you adjust for 33s?

Great point TopMounter -

Which is why I leave mine on all the time. It doesn't hurt when you're driving normally and it's on for when you need to drive aggressive, pass a vehicle, or climb hills.

I've had this button on in my LX since the day I test drove the vehicle. And in my GS this button has been on for coming on to 5 straight years.

I totally misunderstood what the pwr button does. I have been turning off o/d all this time when I should have been using pwr. Big ups to the interweb.

O/D button prevents the overdrive gear in the trans from being available.

For instance: if you're on the hwy, you hit the O/D button, the computer will shift the trans into the next lower gear (highest non-overdrive gear). You'll see RPM's jump up rather high and notice more power available.

If you're in town however, you won't notice anything as the Hundie isn't at a speed that uses overdrive. Of course you'd notice right when you merge onto the highway as the trans won't engage in the overdrive gear.

I drive in PWR mode 100% of the time. I use the O/D button for extreme situations or when the transmission is having trouble staying in a selected gear.

Damn. I was walking out the door when I posted and never checked again. Could have met up....then again maybe we did. there are large black spots in my memory for the weekend.... anyways, I see Cruise Vegas (CV) in the hundie groups future. Any good wheelin? The drive from Vegas to the UT border is awesome and made me want to get a Fox Shock setup for some fast desert travel. Vegas was awesome as usual.

Back on Track...Weather sucked on the way out. It was snowing and snow packed from Grand Junction to Cedar City on the way out and dry on the way home so I can't really make a fair comparison for the gas mileage aspect. Loud is correct about the uphill and downhill. Grand Junction is 2200' higher. It would be better to see total vertical feet both directions. I was averaging 15-20MPH faster on the way home (I'll just say it was "with the flow of left lane traffic". I'f you ever drive out of Vegas north on I-15 you know what that means). I have a large Yakima Skybox on and 6 people with luggage, 285 BFG Ats, Slee Front Bumper.

Gas mileage was 11.09 to Vegas and 11.71 home, and averaged 11.3 for the trip.

With PWR On, I noticed the more responsive gear changed in town but going over mountain passes it felt like it was more anxious to upshift, which was slightly annoying. I think snow was the biggest factor in my mileage. It was interesting that driving so much faster and uphill home didn't have a more negative effect. After really paying attention to it I'll be leaving my PWR switch engaged.

A better test for this gas mileage would be for a city resident who commutes in stop and go traffic for a descent distance to calculate for a week or two with the switch in both positions.

After 120K miles on 35's and with tons of weight I thought I'd try the PWR ON the last couple of months. WOW! Was I wrong about mileage! It's BETTER on my truck. In fact, I was thinking of posting up and then this thread came up.

I'm getting about 12-12.5 in town now rather than 10.5-11. Last highway trip was about 14. My guess? I push the pedal LESS because it downshifts sooner and upshifts later. With those 35's I must use more pdeal in a higher gear vs less pedal in the next one down. Who knows...it only took me 165K and 10-years to figure it out. My D and CRUISE lights are out. Looks like PWR is next. :D

I've always driven with mine off. Most of my Toyotas and Nissans have had this ect-pwr button but it seems like the transmission doesn't shift quickly enough and holds gears way too long to be economical. I've always assumed this would chew up gas but for heavier vehicles with sliders, skid plates, and heavy duty bumpers it's probably better. I tried using it towing my boat though which is less than 1800lbs but had to shut it off after a while. Usually I drive the speed limit or slightly above and hardly ever give her the beans unless I'm passing someone going 45mph in a 55mph zone.
