When I am towing my Jayco Baja, I can't access the rear of the vehicle to get tools out of my drawers or get to the frig. The tire carrier on my Slee Rear Bumper hits the Trailer Jack.

I could take the Jack off and add a swivel Jack, but I see longer Hitches and these things called Extenders.

Looking for opinions, I need another 6" of room to clear the jack and open the rear hatch.

More info:
My receiver is a 2" receiver.
These are the specs on the Baja
Unloaded vehicle weight (lbs.) 1825
Approx. hitch weight (lbs.) 225
Gross vehicle weight rating (lbs.) 3000
This extender looks promising:

Not sure about the reduction of overall capacity by 50%

Ken-

Any of the extenders, if they are beefy enough, should get you the clearance you need. I know the Hummer practically need one to use their hitch at all. I would think 6" is totally realistic just to use an extender.

Just my .02

The reason for the reduction would be the added leverage in my mind. You're adding 6" to the moment arm supporting the tongue weight. I think they will work, but I don't like the idea for anything more than a temporary solution(for example if I were borrowing a friends trailer for a trip). I would go with the swivel jack personally.

The 50% reduction means that if you have a 10,000 pound reciever capacity and use the extender, you can use it for a 5,000 pound trailer. I'm guessing the 50% thing is overkill to appease the lawyers, but there is certainly an increase in the torque applied to the reciever and support structure. In my scenario, your 3K max trailer (weight) would be safe to pull, and wouldn't require the folding jack.

Who said Cdan didn't know anything, ok it was me:D

He asks me if I try and open it with the trailer turned instead of straight. Never thought of that. Went out and measured and if I turn sharp to the left so the trailer is angled, the tire carrier at that point has 6 inched less distance to the receiver. So I may only be off an inch now. I can buy a receiver that's 2 inches longer and not have an issue.

That Dan is a smart man:beer:

Turning the other way makes the problem worse

I don't want to over simplify your problem but here is a solution.

The front one is a normal length, the middle one is a little long and the back one is the one my wife uses one to pull her two horse slant load trailer. The rated toungue weight is 600lbs and the pulling weight is 6000lbs.

They are avaliable from the finer JC Whitney catalogs for less than $40.00.

That's perfect. I said above I would get a longer reciever/hitch and then angle the truck for what other room I need.

Thanks for the pic and input
