Anyone know of a qualified installer in the East Texas/Dallas/Southern Arkansas area for an extended fuel tank and some other LC200 mods? Know of someone a little further away but wanted to check and see if anyone knew of someone closer to my area.

Thanks!

Maybe talk to Georg at Valley Hybrids in Stockton.
He (they) may know some installers they've shipped their LRA tanks to for installs...if you are installing one of their excellent auxiliary tanks.

Is "Valley Hybrids" the same as "Cruiser Brothers"??
I spoke with a Georg at Cruiser Brothers (I guess it must be the same place just diff name) and he gave me one recommendation in the Dallas area but that place didn't work out.....I'll just say the prices were a bit of an issue and leave it at that... - and the only other place he knew of off the top of his head was quite a drive for me. I still plan on calling them but since they're closed for the day I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone knew of someone closer to the Txas/Okla/Ark area. The only place that does lifts and such around here has never heard of KDSS and thought I was driving a 4-runner...

BTW, Georg was super helpful and took the time to help me with all my newb questions.... I could tell he was a solid guy.

Yes. Same. And ya. Georg is as solid as solid guys can be for sure!

To get it done right spend the money. If you have to drive a way and get a hotel while it get's installed that's not all bad. You won't regret it.

That’s what I did for my tank install at Valley Hybrids. Drove all the way to Stockton from San Diego. -Left zero doubt about install, and they did a fantastic job. Sometimes peace of mind is worth the price and time and travel.

All I said was I was trying to find someone closer than 5 hours away - I really have zero problems spending money on good work and I have zero problems driving 5 or more hours to get it done right (i drove 5 hours each way in the same day, alone, to buy the Cruiser) - but I'd be crazy for not making sure there's no one closer and/or cheaper and I have no idea how to find someone like that other than asking around.

Also, I would normally not say anything about someone's prices... but in this case I got severe sticker shock. And this is coming from someone that will drop $300 on a knife or $2000 on a rifle or welder without blinking, so I'm def not a cheap a$$ compared to a lot of folks.
His quote for a 24gal aux tank installed + ARB bumper w/ 2 swing outs installed = $17,000
He wanted about $8000 just to INSTALL an OME BP-51 setup. Just the install cost.

Like I said, the prices were a problem for me. If he can stay in business charging that much then more power to him but I just need a functional fuel tank and bumper installed, not a $60k Gas Monkey Garage rebuild...
Anyone had these things done elsewhere and mind telling me about what it cost just to help me out? Anyone on here pay $8000 to have an ext range fuel tank installed + the cost of the tank? @Markuson - mind giving me a general idea of what cost I should be planning on? Even a really rough estimate will help. Thanks!

Holy smokes!! Run from that guy!!!! $17k?
Rear ARB+2 swingouts, around $2800 or so(?)
LRA tank: About $1600 plus shipping
Install of rear bumper is a pain and so is the tank...but nowhere near your guy's price.
Bumper might take the shop the better part of a day.
Tank could be a full day for a guy or more. But unless they charge $400/hour? Man, his math is crazy.

BP-51 install should be well under $1000. Mine was $600 for BP-51 suspension install here in SD after I bought the parts myself.
Full BP setup including LCAs springs, install kits struts, coilers around $4k new for parts only.

My LRA 24 gallon tank cost around $1400 +tax (reduced price for early-adopters at the time, but it's not much more than that now, which I find amazing). But it's not just a tank. It's a perfectly, weirdly shaped tank from Australia, specifically made to fit US spec 200's...shipped from Aus...and comes with double fill spouts to replace your stock unit...electric fuel pump...control button with tank level gauge...and more. Fantastic product, and easily one of my favorite, most useful mods.

I paid VH a little extra for them to steel-plate the bottom against rock strikes. Probably not needed bc it's so well tucked, but they did a beautiful job at Valley Hybrids!! I can't remember install, but it was about a full day and a half in the shop. Maybe faster now? Don't know, as mine was the first one with a Slee rear bumper, and it was just after they first started importing these for 200's. BUT... they charged nowhere even remotely close to what your guy told you!! Your quote guy is either NUTS...or is used to taking advantage of guys shelling out $90k for an SUV.

Call Georg and order a tank. He is here on mud as @orangefj45 and one heck of a solid dude.

PS. I don't think anyone meant to imply you were cheap. :) Many regulars here assume rightly that others are reading along, so general tips often get included, and aren't necessarily pointed just at the person posting Q. So no worries!

Here’s my tank before it went in, showing the side they “up-armored” with incredibly beautiful welds at the shop:

Wow that tank armor looks really nice.
Ok I'm glad those prices seem just as outrageous to you, my jaw literally hit the floor. Then he told me how the last Cruiser they built was a $60k job.. so I guess that one must have gotten a tank a rear bumper AND a front bumper..lol
I'm going to check with the other guy Georg recommended and may just have to drive a while to get it done... Totally worth it tho.

I’d check with Duggy’s Garage in Houston (I know that’s not Dallas).

@TRD Burglar any Dallas recommendations for a LRA tank install?

Also, when you order Georg or Ward can probably give you a rough range in terms of the number of hours for the install. I’d say 6-8 hours for the 24 gallon tank at the low end (for shops that have done the install before) and 15-20 at the upper end. In my neck of the woods, I’d expect to pay $100-$150/hr for this kind of work so you can go from there.

Check with Tandem Automotive in Haltom City, TX (Fort Worth). They only work on Toyota and Lexus 4x4s. I know they've installed a few.

That's where I'm going when I get mine installed.

Yeah I can see 100/hr being totally reasonable... $400.. not so much.

Thanks for the tip on Duggy's, I'll add them to the list of estimates.

Called and spoke with the guys at Tandem - I think I found a winner. Tom was very helpful, spent 15mins on the phone answering questions and the prices were totally reasonable (about 1k in labor to install an Icon lift), they do the long range tanks and pretty much everything else I was wanting. Plus they're about 3 hours closer to a win-win-win. Hopefully can get everything sorted out and get it to the shop in the next month or so. Thanks @TRD Burglar !

Those prices are ridiculously high IMO. IIRC, my 40 gallon LRA was about $1700 and about $1500 to install with vastly upgraded HW. I am not disappointed.

Sounds like he just didn't want to do the job but wouldn't say so or he doesn't have a clue about the job and wanted to cover his butt.

I have since talked to another shop in that area that knows said shop and is familiar with his pricing... he said he basically does FULL rebuilds on everything that he does (like every nut, washer and bolt) and that he apparently caters to people that have more money than sense. Even if he replaced every nut and bolt I don't know how it cost that much but it would be a good idea if he explained he doesn't just install equipment - he rebuilds and installs and customizes in the most expensive way possible whether you ask for it or not.
Either way... more power to him. I think I've found someone to do it for a reasonable price though so it's all good.

It could be that the guy is not interested in doing the job so he high-balled you to make you go away.

I had a body shop do that to me when I wanted to get my BJ74 straightened out and painted. Shop A wanted 13 grand. Shop B did it for under 6 grand and they did a damn nice job in less than half the time Shop A wanted to have it.
