Where does your exhaust come out at? My experience is if it comes out the rear of the vehicle I've had the same problem. Changed it to behind the wheel and problems was solved.

Not sure if it will help your situation, hope it does though.

Mine is behind rear wheel, my friend was also complaining of the same issue and I said I would post up and report back. On my 60 series I hooked up a rubber hose to the bypass vent on the 3b below and behind the alternator, that really helped a lot with fume-age !
I will mention this to him.
thnx

Do you mean exit out the side with the end of the pipe dumping directly behind the rear tire (putting it in the draft behind the tire)? Mine currently exits out the rear and I too get the exhaust sucked back in the draft behind the truck. I was thinking of routing it behind the wheel, exiting out the side with enough of the pipe beyond the body in order to put the exhaust out into the wind. However, others have mentioned having it exit out the side and dump directly behind the rear tire.

I went and looked at the cruisers. My bj 42 actually bends towards the back right behind the left rear tire. The 78 is the cruiser I thought I had an exhaust leak on and I had them redirect the pipe behind the left rear tire but without any bend in it. The end of the pipe is flush with the rear quarter. So it points away from the side of the cruiser, not towards the back and the odor has gone away.

I can try and send pics but it will be a couple days.

Factory position is drivers side....rear tub....pointing out from the side of the tub back of the driver side wheel.
Mine has always been set at factory position since I still use the original hanger spots and only use OEM exhaust , with this setup and no roof I have not experienced back drafting of the exhaust while in motion only sitting at idle but that is the nature of the beast for diesel 42s bottom line is they will stink you out if they aren't movin.

Guys its great having you all chime in ! Dieseler I do now recall ( thanks to your help ) rememner the factory set up.
Thinking back my friend Remi had a bj42 with the exhaust directed outward below the passenger door between the two tires... and if I recall correctly one could smell the exhaust while driving with the roof off not too mention it was also very loud for the driver.
