Replaced gasket a week ago (boy, was that fun....NOT )

Would like to verify bolts / stud nuts are still tight - re-torque as needed.

QUESTION : if I remove bolt holding emissions plumbing harness and bolt holding PVC line, can heat sheld be bowed (bent...) up enough to slide the 17mm socket thru to the two stud nuts ?

Anyone tried it ?

TIA

Pete

I wouldnt bend it at all unless you have a spare one ready to drop in. ;)

Do you think its leaking, or are you just 'double-checking' your work ? If its not leaking or loud and you have good vacuum I'd leave it alone. Its not as critical as say re-tourquing head bolts.

I replaced mine a year or two back. When I re-torqued the bolts a few weeks later, they were pretty loose! I think "theoretically" you can thread the socket in there, but unless you have one securely attached to your extension, you'll be losing a few 17mm sockets. So I just ended up removing the carb and shield...

Just a quick note... when I put mine back together I took someone's advice on here and torqued the manifold slightly higher than spec. I've never had to retourque and I have no leaks at the manifold.

Good luck,

Rob

Thanks for feedback

Wasn't thinking of bending tooooo much; just enough to get the socket thru;
and with any luck, tease it back out :)

I too was suprised at how loose one of the stud nuts were (hand untighten & removed)...one of the bolts was also not very tight.

Yea, I torqued 'em a little past the FSM range....

I'd still like to check 'em in a month or so...

Thanks again

Yup. I overtorqued mine and used a bit of the highest temp loc-tite that I could find, and the engine still runs like a top, pulling 16 inches of mercury.
